Course Name/Number: BL716, Understanding Health Systems and Government Decision-Making

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to two important aspects of health systems and health care delivery. First, students will explore how health systems around the world organize, finance, and deliver health care services compared to the Canadian health system. Second, students will be provided with health policy analysis tools to assist them with understanding how governments arrive at decisions and to help predict the likelihood of various policies and programs being adopted by governments. Students will be exposed to current issues in health management, including topics such as the for-profit versus not-for-profit mix of services within Canada and an exploration of practical service delivery concerns.

Projected Enrollment: 35 Projected TA Support: 32.5 hours

Location: online (both synchronous and asynchronous) as well as three weekend in-person sessions at RJC (Bulington)

Wage Rate*: The DeGroote School of Business offers a pay rate commensurate with qualifications and related teaching experience in a range from $8,600 to $9,750. The exact rate of pay is determined at the sole discretion of the employment supervisor, according to standard evaluation criteria.

- Supplemented Fees
- Article 15.02 The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule B of the Collective Agreement. The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount.
