Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.

**Position Overview**:
This position entails supporting the supervisor with research, engagement, and knowledge mobilization tasks associated with ongoing research into "Welcoming Communities" and migration to remote and rural areas.

**Duties**:

- The position may contain other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- A general understanding of migration processes and migration research, and demonstrated experience in this realm, will be essential.
- The student must have a strong academic record with considerable experience in researching, writing and conducting analysis at a high level.
- Upper year undergraduate (4th year) or Masters student is preferred.
- Enrollment in a social science program is considered an asset.
- Previous research assistance work is considered an asset. Student must have strong English language skills.
- Japanese language skills (written and spoken) would be considered an asset, as much of this work involves collaborating with Japanese research partners.
- Graphic design and formatting is considered an asset.

**Condition(s) of Employment**:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Students must be approved for the 2024-25 Work-Study program. Students may be eligible for the Work-Study Program if they meet **all **of the following criteria:
- Currently an undergraduate or graduate student (PACE and ELP students are currently ineligible);-
- Enrolled full-time for the current Fall/Winter session (i.e. at least 18 credit hours or 12 credit hours if registered with Accessibility Services);-
- Completed 24 credit hours at an undergraduate level at the University (or equivalent);-
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0;-
- Have demonstrated financial need (shortage between your expenses and resources)*; and-
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person or an international student with a valid study permit.The period of work will be from **ASAP - March 31, 2025 **and the estimated total hours of work will be **49 hours**.
