Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.

**Position Overview**:
I need a student research assistant to assist with preparing the author/topic index for a book that is in production now. As soon as proofs are available, the assistant can collate index terms to pages. (McLuhan with Tyrwhitt and Kepes: Crises then as now with Peter Lang)

The student assistant can also help with some proofreading.

I am writing another book (co-authored, called Write to Engage with Broadview press) and similar editing proofing work needs to be done. It is a text about writing, and I would like the assistant to read about 4 chapters and tell me if/where there are gaps or points that need amplification or clarification.

**Duties**:

- Read proofs to identify and correct surface errors.
- Collate index terms with pages (using search function, rather than manually).
- Enter the book on webpage and help with making the book visible online.
- Read 3-4 chapters of Write to Engage to indicate how a student reader responds to the text.
- Proofread chapters.

**Qualifications**
- The student needs to understand points of accuracy, style, and some editing.
- Preference will be given to a student who has completed Professional Style and Editing RHET-2131, with a grade of B+ or better.

**Condition(s) of Employment**:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Students must be approved for the 2024-25 Work-Study program. Students may be eligible for the Work-Study Program if they meet **all **of the following criteria:
- Currently an undergraduate or graduate student (PACE and ELP students are currently ineligible);-
- Enrolled full-time for the current Fall/Winter session (i.e. at least 18 credit hours or 12 credit hours if registered with Accessibility Services);-
- Completed 24 credit hours at an undergraduate level at the University (or equivalent);-
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0;-
- Have demonstrated financial need (shortage between your expenses and resources)*; and-
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person or an international student with a valid study permit.The period of work will be from **ASAP - March 31, 2025 **and the estimated total hours of work will be **38 hours**.
