**Position Summary**

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Policy and Legal Affairs at the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Secretariat Inc. (AMC), the First Nations Climate Change and Environment Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating initiatives related to the regional environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development for AMC member First Nations. The incumbent will lead policy analysis, research, and strategic development efforts to address climate-related policies and initiatives affecting First Nations interests, aligning with the mission of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Conduct research and analysis of federal and provincial climate-related policies, plans, and legislative initiatives impacting the rights, lands and interests of AMC member First Nations.
- Provide recommendations and draft policy options to support the implementation of new or revised policies affecting First Nations.
- Supervise the Clean Energy Coordinator and related project staff, providing guidance and support for project management and policy development.
- Coordinate with AMC First Nations and external stakeholders, including other First Nations organizations, government agencies, and community groups, to promote collaborative efforts in addressing environmental and climate challenges.
- Prepare various documents, including briefing notes, presentations, correspondence, reports, and communication materials, to communicate policy recommendations and findings effectively.
- Maintain collaborative networks and partnerships to access information and resources necessary for policy formulation and integration.
- Participate in committees, focus groups, and task forces as directed, representing the interests of AMC First Nations on environmental and climate-related issues.
- Develop proposals to access funding opportunities and initiate actions to implement environmental leadership initiatives.
- Maintain organized files of research and historical documents, ensuring accessibility and accuracy of information for policy development purposes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications **Education & Experience**
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Emergency Management, Conservation, or related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Policy Analyst supporting topics of climate change, environmental research, coordination, and program delivery.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, history, treaty and inherent rights, and understanding of key issues such as sovereignty, self-determination, and Aboriginal and Treaty rights.
- Familiarity with First Nations research methods and procedures.
- Experience in project design and management, including planning, organizing, and setting priorities.
- Clear understanding the mission of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs and the First Nation political processes that exists within the First Nations and representative organizations.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
- Ability to write clearly, and creatively within tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to build and maintain effective networks and relationships.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- Resourcefulness, passion, judgement, tact, and initiative.
- Adaptable to flexible work scheduling and occasional travel as required. Valid Class 5F Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
- Ability to work co-operatively as a part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals, and demonstrated ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Proficient in using Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Adhere to AMC policies and procedures with specific attention to attendance, and professional ethics.
- Possesses a valid Class 5F Driver’s License and vehicle, work flexible hours, and travel upon request.
