Manitoba Environment and Climate Change is looking for a hydrogeologist with strong project management and supervisory experience to lead a team of hydrogeologists and technicians in the delivery of programs to protect and manage groundwater in Manitoba. Groundwater is highlighted as a key focus area in the new provincial water management strategy and with new work underway on aquifer sustainability, groundwater quality monitoring, and network review, this is an exciting time to work in this area of government.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime when required.
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout the province and occasionally outside of Manitoba (within Canada and the United States).
- Must be willing and able to undertake field work under sometimes harsh weather conditions.
- Registered with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or eligible to be registered)

Qualifications:
Essential:

- Possess an undergraduate or graduate university degree in science or engineering with specialization in hydrogeology.
- Highly skilled in hydrogeological analyses.
- Experience in program management and planning, including designing studies, budgeting, undertaking statistical analyses, implementing, and evaluating complex groundwater related programs.
- Experience in identifying impacts to groundwater and developing mitigation strategies.
- Highly developed political acumen and the ability to account for the sensitivity of an issue considering public interest, political ramifications, and departmental constraints, to develop options to resolve issues for consideration by the appropriate decision-maker.
- Excellent organizational, decision-making, and strategic thinking skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience with ability to coach and mentor staff.
- Highly developed listening and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with other senior civil servants, officials of other agencies/governments, resource user groups, stakeholders, Indigenous peoples, and the public.
- Strong written communication skills with experience preparing, reviewing and writing complex reports and documents to suport decision making.
- Effective verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations.

**Duties**:
The Manager, Groundwater Management Section is a technical expert, leader and manager responsible for approval and delivery of groundwater management programs and legislation. The manager provides sound leadership, technical expertise, planning, coordination, and fiscal accountability for a section comprised of professional personnel and also provides leadership on transboundary groundwater management. The Groundwater Management Section administers The Ground Water and Water Well Act; undertakes studies to map the occurrence and quality of groundwater; monitors groundwater quality and water levels and stores this information in databases; evaluates the sustainable development capacity of aquifers; carries out studies to assess natural water quality and the potential for impacts from various human activities; and represents the department on intergovernmental boards and task forces related to groundwater management.
