**About the Opportunity**:
Urban Matters CCC is currently looking for an Indigenous Wellbeing student or recent graduate to join our practice from January to April 2025, with an option to extend the work term for up to 12 months
As social planners and community development consultants, we work alongside First Nations, local governments, organizations, businesses, and both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities to dig into the root of systemic issues and test innovative new approaches. Our team is made up of interdisciplinary consultants who specialize in affordable housing, health and social planning, community development, Indigenous wellbeing, and social innovation. Our innovative practice excels at providing social planning and community development services to clients who are tasked with managing the complex social issues that many of our communities face. More and more of our clients are looking for innovative ideas and customized solutions based on an integrated perspective across fields such as planning, public health, social work, reconciliation, and social innovation.

In general, you can expect to be involved in the following kinds of activities:
- Conducting research, preparing background reports, and supporting projects for local government, community partners, and Indigenous clients
- Assisting in the preparation of documents, technical studies, and preparing presentations for clients and public meetings
- Collaborating with the existing team to develop public engagement materials such as open house panels, newsletters, brochures, and community surveys
- Attending and supporting site visits, public meetings, engagement and facilitation workshops, program planning, and open houses as required
- Working with and learning from professionals at a range of levels and practice areas, as well as other related professionals.
- This role will primarily support Indigenous practitioners across UM to complete various wellbeing related projects and initiatives research.
**About You**:
- Curiosity in a wide range of social issues and across the determinants of health, including housing, social connection, poverty, and more.
- Knowledge and understanding of the local Indigenous context.
- Awareness of Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
- Interest and/or experience working with a wide range of clients, including Indigenous communities, local governments, community serving organizations, and provincial and federal governments.
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities and language(s).
- Excellent verbal communication skills, ability to write well, and experience translating technical jargon into plain-language materials.
- Proven ability to conduct research, including the collection and analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative data.
- Skilled at connecting with people, asking questions, and working on teams.
- Open to working on projects throughout Western Canada with communities of all sizes.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment with a team of professionals who are deeply committed to exceeding communities' expectations.
- An ability to thrive in a self-directed work environment, take initiative and consistently deliver high-quality work.
