**Quality and Safety Specialist (QSS)**
**Primary Responsibilities**
Reporting to the Production Manager, the QSS is responsible for implementation, maintenance, and assistance in the development of the best-in-class Food Safety Management System, Quality Management System, Occupational Health and Safety System, and assistance with all legal, third party and customer requirements.
**Job Duties**
As the QSS, you will be primarily responsible for the stewardship of the Quality Management System (QMS), Food Safety Management System (FSMS), and Occupational Health and Safety Systems (OHSS) which are based on ISO standards. Additional regulatory requirements associated with these programs is integrated into the Apex system. Assistance in the improvement, development, and delegation of compliance responsibilities within the Compliance and Operational departments will require a strong command of verbal and written English skills and the ability to prioritize key deliverables in a timely manner. The overall scope of compliance objectives is provided by the Chief of Innovation & Compliance Officer. Provision of support to additional compliance programs (Occupational Health and Safety, Organic Certification, Kosher certification etc) are included in the job scope is supported by the Compliance Department. Although previous OH&S experience is not compulsory for this position, familiarity with OH&S requirements for WorkSafe BC and/or ISO 45001 is a plus. A valid Occupational First Aid certificate (Level 1 or above) is ideal.
**Profile, Know-How, and Experience**
Applicant will ideally have proven experience as a food safety professional and/or quality assurance coordinator for 3+ years. Experience in a food factory/pharmaceutical environment is strongly preferred as is hands-on experience. Strong communication skills are required. The position requires strong time management and listening skills to establish compliant programs which are adhered to.
