Role Objectives: The Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the continuous development and improvement of the plant's Occupational Health and Safety Program. This role involves executing approved health and safety initiatives to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation. Responsibilities include conducting facility and equipment inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend preventive measures, as well as investigating accidents and work-related illnesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily management of health and safety issues within the facility.
- Assist in preparing F7's and monitoring claims.
- Coordinate the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
- Organize monthly first aid meetings.
- Implement and manage safety programs.
- Identify hazardous conditions and practices, including Lockout/Tagout procedures and risk assessments.
- Ensure thorough accident investigations and documentation completion.
- Support the arrangement of return-to-work and modified duties for employees.
- Maintain and update Job Safety Analysis and safe work practices.
- Provide guidance and support for all health and safety activities.
- Generate reports and statistical information as required.
- Collaborate with management to ensure adherence to all Health and Safety policies and procedures as mandated by legislation.
- Assist with new employee orientation and safety training.
- Manage non-occupational disability claims.
- Ensure all programs are current with evolving requirements and regulations, reviewing the entire safety program annually.
- Work alongside the Safety Advisor from Safety Alliance of BC to pursue OSSE certification.
- Perform additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in policy administration and legislative compliance.
- Experience in safety or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in an accredited Occupational Health and Safety certification program.
- In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and training in hazard recognition, assessment, and control.
- Familiarity with Return To Work and modified work programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate with union and management personnel.
- Proactive self-starter capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- High level of integrity and transparency in dealings with others.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CRSP designation is an asset.
- Experience in claims management.
- Background in manufacturing and understanding of process safety.
