About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Safety Officer to join our team at Jacob Bros Construction. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors on our construction sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, monitor, and promote our Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Program on-site, fostering a culture of safety and cooperation among all employees and subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain strong, positive professional relationships with project stakeholders at all levels.
  • Communicate with management regarding safety performance, incident trends, and industry-related information.
  • Maintain current knowledge of OH&S Program, Workers Compensation Act and Regulations, owner requirements, and industry safe work procedures and practices.
  • Conduct site-specific safety orientations for new employees, transferred employees, and contractor's workers.
  • Conduct jobsite inspections, submit inspection reports to the Superintendent and Safety team members.
  • Conduct risk assessments of the workplace when people, equipment, materials, environment, and work processes change.
  • Investigate and report all accidents, incidents, and near misses to the Safety Team; provide effective recommendations for prevention of recurrences.
  • Assist with hazard assessments, create Job Hazard Analyses (JHA's), project safety plans, safe work procedures, and the education and training of employees.
  • Post all bulletins, safety posters, emergency plans, rules, and regulations, safety inspections, safety meetings, and any other notices relevant to the OH&S Program.
  • Liaise with external construction industry safety agencies.
  • Work efficiently in teams and independently; maintain a positive, high-energy attitude.
  • Other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • OFA Level 2 mandatory.
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or NSCO certification preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a site-based health and safety role in the construction industry.
  • Civil construction experience is strongly preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Procore (or similar), record keeping, and document archival.
  • Excellent English verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Legally entitled to work for any employer in Canada.
