**Position Overview**

**Student Accessibility Services** within **Student and Enrolment Services **is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Access Advisor.**

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Student Accessibility Services and provides case management, consultation, and direct support to students with disabilities and medical conditions. The Access advisor deals with complex issues related to disability and accessibility and as such requires the ability to assess and solve problems, resolve conflict and promote an accessible learning environment. This position involves a high level of collaboration between students, instructors, Associate Deans, Directors, Counselors, and other key stakeholders. The Access advisor will work closely with students with disabilities to determine academic accommodations as well as provide direct case management support to students in distress or experiencing personal or academic crisis. The Access advisor will be expected to manage a caseload of approximately 400-500 registered students and will also be expected to provide information and resources to prospective students and their families.

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Assess medical, psychological or neuropsychological documentation of disability and health conditions to determine eligibility for accommodation and services
- Actively consult with specialists (e.g. physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists) to ensure that the documentation is appropriate and accommodations being provided are reasonable and appropriate
- Evaluate the needs of students without documentation of disability to determine if further assessment (medical, psychoeducational or neuropsychological) is appropriate. Arrange for further assessment as appropriate and manage the referral process in order to obtain further support for students.
- Recommend assistive and educational services (e.g. sign language interpreters, note takers, scribes, academic strategists) for students with disabilities ) as appropriate
- Collaborate with faculty and instructional staff to resolve issues or conflicts related to the provision of accommodations.
- Refer students to appropriate services on campus and in the community
- Maintain appropriate case notes and files, ensuring that file entries comply with U of C internal policies and F.O.I.P requirements
- Work to support the broader university community to understand issues of accessibility and accommodations, including educating the campus community about the Student Accommodation Policy
- Provide information on disability issues to prospective students and their families, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as the general University community
- Recommend programming and training in regards to working with and supporting students with disabilities.

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work or related discipline
- 5 years of experience working with adults with disabilities, preferably in a post-secondary setting
- Excellent knowledge of medical, psychological, and neuropsychological documentation of disability and or health conditions and possesses the ability to determine how functional limitations of disabilities and medical conditions impact students and learning in a post-secondary settings.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Knowledge of Human Rights legislation affecting individuals with disabilities and medical conditions
- Knowledge of legal issues related to the Duty to Accommodate persons with Disabilities in Post-Secondary settings
- Demonstrates a strong regard for issues of confidentiality and dealing with highly sensitive material.
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with multiple colleagues, departments, organizations and people in sensitive and complex situation.
