**Position Summary**

The Technical Coordinator, Faculty of Music is accountable to the Facilities Operations Manager, Faculty of Music for the safe, efficient, and effective technical management of the Theatre Auditorium and Maureen Forrester Recital Hall. This position reports to the Facilities Operations Manager; Daily work is scheduled and delegated to this position by the Technical Director, Faculty of Music. The Technical Coordinator leads, supervises, and delegates to casual staff, while providing excellent client service for internal and external rental clients. This position provides instruction to students of widely varying experience and skill levels, in areas such as lighting, sound, and audiovisual. The Technical Coordinator works closely with other Faculty of Music staff, including the Dean’s Office staff, the Technical Director, other Technical Coordinators, the Wardrobe Coordinator, and the Student Front of House Coordinator.

**Accountabilities**

Supervision
- Supervises crew for all load ins and load outs of internal and external clients when Technical Director is not present; Ensures all technical/safety requirements are met
- Orients clients to safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations
- Trains and oversees casual staff in the safe and appropriate use of lighting, sound, video, rigging, and stage equipment to act as technical staff for incoming productions/clients; works in consultation with the Technical Director
- Trains students as technical assistants. Provides instruction to students whose goals include work in technical theatre; areas of instruction include (but are not limited to) stage management, special effects, lighting installation, lighting cue programming and operation, projection installation, video programming and operation, sound cue programing and operation, audio & video recording; Providing coaching and tutorials as needed

Event Management
- Accountable to the Facilities Operations Manager and the Technical Director on all matters pertaining to the safe and technical operation of the Faculty of Music’s performance facilities as both the primary venues for department productions and as rental facilities available to clients from both on and off campus
- Assesses needs, answers questions, problem-solves issues and develops new solutions relating to rental clients and the spaces
- Advises Technical Director on necessary technical resources required for clients related to staging, props, lighting, rigging, video, and sound, including set-ups and strikes
- Works with the Technical Director to generate schedules and manage crew and equipment accordingly
- Ensures that all theatre rental clients are given advice based on technical expertise to produce their events to a professional standard
- Function as lead hand on most rentals, both internal and external. Operating sound and/or lighting as necessary
- Supervises post-production strikes and loadouts when Technical Director is no present

Facilities Maintenance & Safety
- Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, video; and performs preventive maintenance on equipment
