Position Summary:
The Faculty of Music, Wilfrid Laurier University, requires part-time contract teaching faculty (CTF) to teach the courses listed below in the Fall, Winter, and Spring Terms of 2023 and 2024 to be taught at the Waterloo campus. Following is a brief description of the course to indicate the content and level of difficulty. Application items below suggested as optional are strongly recommended. Inclusion and assistance is also required regarding any teaching work that follows AODA guidelines for students requiring and requesting assistance with their coursework and learning. We would be happy to provide additional information that may be required.

Successful applicants for the “Music Therapy Clinical Supervision” position will be eligible to provide supervision in both/either practicum (i.e., MU363, MU455a, MU455c, MU504) and internship (i.e., MU458a, MU459b) courses. After applicants are hired, Laurier’s Experiential Placements Coordinator will confirm your availability and workload capacity in relation to your own schedule and the overall placement/internship timetable.

MU363, MU455a, MU455c, MU504 - Music Therapy Practica

In these experiential placement courses, each student works together with another student music therapist to facilitate group or individual music therapy sessions under the supervision of a qualified music therapy supervisor, either in community settings or at the Laurier clinic. Students also attend weekly small group or dyadic supervision meetings, which focus upon developing clinical musicianship, planning sessions, conducting assessments, writing goals, understanding the dynamics of therapeutic process, and problem-solving clinical issues that arise. During these courses, students build ethical therapeutic relationships and expand ethical thinking, navigate issues of professionalism, and foster their capacities for reflexivity.

MU458a, MU459b - Music Therapy Internship

These courses are a full-time, pre-professional clinical placement in a community setting, providing students with the opportunity to complete their internship through the Canadian Association of Music Therapists. It is expected that students will work approximately 500 clinical hours per term, including 150 hours of direct client contact. Students integrate their clinical musicianship into the planning and facilitation of group and individual music therapy sessions while learning to sustain collaborative and collegial relationships with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals. Students develop clinical documentation skills according to their site's specific practices, participate in professional development activities, put ethical standards into daily practice, and develop their capacity for reflexivity and the safe and effective use of self. Students receive 15 hours of individual clinical supervision from a qualified music therapy supervisor per term.

Qualifications - Required: Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree for MU504 only

Qualifications - Other: Certified Music Therapist (MTA) in good standing; CAMT qualified music therapy supervisor.

Qualifications - Preferred: Preference given to applicants with music-centred music therapy training and experience; Preference given to applicants with a minimum of five years of clinical experience since graduation.
