**Job Summary**

The Market Manager acts as the Market expert at CN. He or she must understand Market and commodity dynamics and the impact they can have on CN. The incumbent develops and owns his or her marketing strategy and implementation plan for his or her market segment(s); improve and help optimize asset utilization by carload and revenue forecasting and planning to meet service requirements for the current and future. He or she must understand the competition and the competition of our customers within their market. The incumbent for this position will be responsible for increasing CN’s revenue, carloads and contribution in line with corporate goals and identifying and developing new products and services to position CN ahead of the competition.

**Main Responsibilities**
- Develop prices that correspond to the value of CN’s services. Price ahead of inflation. Extract maximum value for CN services.
- Grow their markets ahead of underlying market growth
- Forecast and monitor/measure overall trends in the Macro environment of their commodity and specifically for CN for resource management
- Develop strategy in relation to their respective market and ensure he/she is knowledgeable on all services/products provided by CN
- Develop strategy for major contract and tariff renewals ensuring all of CN services are offered to maximize CN’s contribution and enhance CN’s Market Share for long term growth
- Budget, forecast and monitor revenue, carloads and contributions
- Negotiate revenue divisions with connecting carriers
- Possess strong knowledge of CN’s competitors and Customer’s competitors
- Generate and lead growth projects
- Investigate existing lanes of business in an effort to remove cost and keep CN competitive
- Based on market intelligence, develop new products to introduce into the marketplace to drive volume and market share improvement
- Identify key issues that impact CN's competitive response to the market environment

**Working Conditions**

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday as well as occasional work performed in field locations in various types of weather and environmental conditions. In addition, occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to meet deadlines. The role requires moderate travel, which may include overnight stays away from home.

**Requirements**:
**Experience**

Relevant Work Experience
- Between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience in logistics Supply chain or energy sector*
- Any experience for any of the above would be considered as an asset

**Education/Certification/Designation**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or any business-related university degree

**Competencies**
- Knows the business and stays current with industry trends to elevate expertise and work
- Tracks metrics to achieve ambitious targets and holds self and others accountable to meet performance expectations
- Makes informed and timely decisions to get things done
- Negotiates towards a win-win outcome while taking all points of view into consideration

- Ability to clearly communicate with Senior Management complex concepts, projects, and market strategies

**Technical Skills/Knowledge**
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint are a must)
- Knowledge of CN’s product and capacity in major corridors*
- Strong understanding of railroading*
- Strong supply chain understanding*
- Strong understanding of transportation and competition from all modes*
- Strong understanding of the costs of our services*
- Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
