About Musqueam
**Position Summary**:
The Musqueam Indian Band xʷnac̓θət Home is a culturally focused place of safety for children who are considered at risk of physical, sexual and or emotional abuse as a result of poor parenting skills/ poverty/ neglect or because of drug/alcohol related issues. It is also a place of change for parents and families in need of help and support.
This position is responsible to provide culturally sensitive case management services to children and their families in conjunction with the Social Development Program Manager. The xʷnac̓θət Safe Home Coordinator supervises the residential staff, volunteers, community helpers, and on call arranges and conducts staff meetings; conducts performance reviews and manages support staff. In coordination with the Social Development Manager and various treatment teams they will follow through on plans, assessments, evaluations and reports and manage all residential, administrative and day to day financial duties. The operative words for this position are: “culturally sensitive and focused support to Musqueam caregivers and children.”
This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility involves general day-to-day operation of the Safe Home; this may include everything from ordering office supplies to rectifying a dispute between staff or clients. Takes the lead on daily problem-solving, finalizing staff schedules, strategic planning or defers this to the Social Development Manager and or others for support, as deemed necessary.
- Supports staff and coordinates hiring practices in the Safe Home with Musqueam Human Resources, and the Social Development Program Manager
- Prepares staff schedules; ensures job descriptions are up-to-date; involved with recruitment and selection
- Manages day-to-day employee issues in an effective and culturally sensitive way.
- Oversees the budget; responsible for financial planning, managing, monitoring and anticipating expenses throughout the fiscal year, including petty cash, running costs and daily spending for both the Safe Home Coordinator and its residents.
- Responsible for Safe Home management, which includes program planning, assessment and reviews including all reports/planning pertaining to Musqueam client children and their families.
- Development of new programs, streamlining current programs and services or adapting programs to serve the Safe Home staff, Musqueam community, and its residents, as well as culture/permanency planning for Musqueam children, after care supports for families, and working directly with delegated child welfare authorities/agencies and legislative parameters for Musqueam families.
- Monitors program data and statistics to review their effectiveness, particularly where child protection concerns are reported, and is the lead on all child safety concerns /referrals to xʷnac̓θət Safe Home.
- Facilities Management: responsible for ensuring that the building, office and living space is secure, and clean for staff, children and their families. On occasion service technicians may be needed to complete internal or external repairs. Also responsible for security issues, housekeeping tasks and all safety concerns regarding the resource.
- Ensures the Safe Home transport vehicle is clean, safe, legal and available at all times for the use of the Safe Home only and that all Safe Home staff are licensed, sober and qualified to drive the vehicle.
- Ensures that the Safe Home provisions, programming and supports for children and families are healthy, Musqueam culture specific, empowering and supportive to Musqueam families, and according to individualized plans developed with delegated authorities for Musqueam children and families. The xʷnac̓θət Safe Home Coordinator advocates for meaningful, realistic plans for Musqueam families and children that encourage healing, and healthy, safe parental homes.

- Other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Social Work/Bachelor of Science in human services or related field preferred but substantial life and/or personal experience and knowledge of Musqueam, or First Nations culture will also be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of working with the Ministry of Children and Family Development or other delegated Aboriginal child welfare authorities, and four plus years working in the field of Child Safety will be considered an asset.
- Experience and or knowledge of Musqueam First Nations People, their culture and history.
- First aid/CPR certification
- Food Safe Certificate
- Strong leadership, organization and conflict resolution skills are a must.
- Ability to prepare complete, concise and clear reports.
- Ability to intervene during crisis situations with minors up to 18 years of age.
