**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director of Privacy and Data Analytics, the Privacy Officer will work with the Director of Privacy and Data Analytics to ensure organizational compliance with relevant privacy legislation, and provincial electronic health records policies, standards, and guidelines. The Privacy Officer enhances UOHI’s credibility and engenders trust in UOHI’s services from a privacy perspective.

The Privacy Officer manages the day-to-day implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive and legally compliant privacy program in a complex healthcare environment, promoting privacy practices and standards and providing formal and informal analyses and guidance with a focus on continuous quality improvement.

The Privacy Officer has a considerable degree of interaction with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including: project managers and team members; funders and consultants; government/regulatory bodies; privacy experts in the healthcare field; clinical users; patients/clients and members of the public. Leadership skills are required to build trust and accomplish goals with the assistance of internal and external teams. The Privacy Officer must be able to respond to complex situations and understand complex program, system and relationship configurations; effectively communicate complex requirements to a variety of stakeholders and ensure that risks are appropriately mitigated or assumed; confidently provide guidance based on law, policy, standards and best practice, and expanding working knowledge of business requirements and must have extensive technical knowledge and be able to use existing analytic tools and independently identify risks and gaps as new information is presented.

**Major areas of direct responsibility include**:

- Assessing risk
- Training
- Auditing
- Supporting research practices
- Supporting MyChart
- Management of Consent Directives
- Responds to Privacy Incidents and Breaches

**Basic requirements**:

- 3 or 4-year undergraduate degree preferably Health Informatics, Health Administration, Law, or related discipline.
- Knowledge of legislation/regulations and awareness of judicial decisions impacting privacy management (including Public Hospitals Act, Coroner’s Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act).
- Knowledge of hospital organization and health care delivery system.

**Preferred qualifications**:

- Healthcare setting experience would be preferred Privacy
- Training, preferably CIPP
