Communities ChooseWell is a program funded by Alberta Health, and managed by ARPA that inspires and strengthens community action to create local conditions and environments that enable all Albertans to eat well and be active. As a key member of the Communities ChooseWell team, the Program Officer, Engagement & Allyship is responsible for nurturing relationships with communities and champions, assessing community capacity and readiness to undertake healthy eating and active living initiatives, and fostering a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Program Officer will champion the program’s reconciliatory work, liaise with and support grant recipients, and implement new engagement strategies and tools that feature the Communities ChooseWell Healthy Communities Framework.

**Location**: Flexible within Alberta (Edmonton or Calgary area preferred)

**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Program Manager, Communities ChooseWell, the Program Officer will:
Develop & Implement
- Develop and coordinate community-based workshops for local wellness champions across Alberta

Facilitate Peer Support & Knowledge Exchange
- Facilitate and grow a provincial Indigenous Peer Learning Network
- Support strategies to increase communications between champions and communities using a Community Development approach
- Promote and facilitate networking forums or other online peer networking spaces

Develop and Provide Information, Tools, & Resources
- Develop and/or coordinate print and/or web-based tools and resources related to community development

Promote & Celebrate Community Action
- Provide support for Healthy Community Grant recipients throughout the course of their project term
- Support awards nomination, selection, and distribution processes

Collaborations & Partnerships
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with external organizations, partners and communities as needed
- Participate in multi-sectoral collaborations that align with program outcomes as necessary

Organization-based Allyship
- Initiate and support Reconciliation and allyship related activities undertaken by ARPA and/or Communities ChooseWell
- Represent ARPA and/or Communities ChooseWell at meetings, events, and ceremonies with, and in support of equity deserving groups as needed
- Lead, support and participate in EDID learning opportunities for ARPA staff, members, and volunteers

Support the Team
- Represent and promote ARPA and/or Communities ChooseWell at tradeshows, conferences & events as needed
- Support other organizational activities as required, such as ARPA’s annual conference

**Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Post-secondary degree in a relevant field such as sport & recreation management, health education or promotion, public health, recreation, or similar.
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience related to the duties of the position is required
- Understanding of population health and community development is preferred
- Experience working with Indigenous populations or other diverse communities is preferred
- Working knowledge of Alberta public health and recreation organizations and municipalities is an asset
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
- Ability to facilitate learning events in a virtual platform (e.g. Zoom) is required
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently, with little supervision
- Strong project and time management skills, and the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects
- Strong computer skills including word processing, internet research, Gmail, videoconferencing technology such as Zoom, and social media
- Ability to accommodate occasional work outside of typical business hours and travel within Alberta
