Summer Job Coach (3 vacancies)

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of the Summer Employment Transitions (SET), provide assistance to SET job seekers who have developmental and other disabilities looking for and then working within the community; offer a peer role-model relationship; develop a social rapport with the job seeker; promotes practices and conditions that ensure the health and safety of job seekers; and promotes ICSS Employment Solutions in the community.

The Summer Job Coaches will be provided with extensive training to support the job seeker in their position. This training will be provided by the coordinator under the supervision of the program supervisor. Job Coaches will attend a 4-week in-class and community training to support job seekers in their positions. This training will include information on developmental disability, mental health, essentials for job coaching, health and safety, and labour laws.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

- Experience working with developmentally disabled persons, or other related human services, is an asset.
- Aptitude to learn quickly and to work independently.
- Must be able to relate to participants in a professional and caring manner.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be willing to work hours according to the varying requirements of the job including nights and weekends.
- Must have access to a vehicle at all times during scheduled work hours (travel costs reimbursed during working hours).
- Good computer skills/experience; an asset.
- Public speaking experience; an asset.
- A positive attitude along with excellent teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of the community; an asset.

DUTIES:

- Provides assistance to job seekers who have developmental disabilities, looking for and then working in paid jobs within the community; offers a peer role-model relationship; develops a social rapport with the job seeker.
- Must be willing to make 'cold calls' to employers and attend follow-up meetings to secure work opportunities for job seekers with a disability.
- Providing supervision and training for job seekers, under the supervision of the Employment Transitions (ET) Supervisor and Coordinator.
- Acts as a peer role model while coaching job seekers with disabilities on-the-job to learn work skills, and personal management skills (teamwork, on-the-job safety, proper work ethics, and workplace etiquette).
- Providing each job seekers with optimum assistance and support to develop his/her full potential for work skills/work habits/socialization / age-appropriate behaviours.
- Fulfilling work duties until such time as the job seeker can work independently.
- Maintaining open communication with the employer.
- Recording information as required.
- Remaining on-site for the duration of the job seeker’s shift.
- Meeting with the Coordinator on a regular basis.

Working Conditions / Conditions of Employment:
The individual must be willing to work varying hours as required by the job seeker whom we are providing a service.

Must obtain a driver’s abstract/ record. Must possess valid vehicle insurance. Must provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Police Check. Must provide a valid First Aid/CPR Level C certificate. Must provide a letter of good health and documentation indicating all up-to-date applicable immunizations.

**$17.50 per hour, 35 hours per week**
