**The Opportunity**:
Increases community engagement in Immigration Partnership or the Region of Waterloo’s Community Outreach Program (and other poverty reduction initiatives as assigned) efforts by facilitating, resourcing, and supporting the development and implementation of capacity building activities through community and organizational development, partnership building, strategic planning, policy and program development, and pro-active dissemination of evidence-based practices in immigration and refugee or poverty reduction issues.

**Current Assignment**: As part of the Immigration Partnership staff team, this role will address settlement and integration issues of immigrants and refugees (not poverty reduction aspects of the job description).

**Duties/Responsibilities**:
Acts as a coach and consultant to mobilize community capacities and engage citizens and multiple sectors in creating an inclusive community by addressing settlement and integration issues of immigrants and refugees or poverty issues collaboratively.

Facilitates community participatory processes, including critical reflection, problem solving, visioning and strategic/action planning and implementation of the strategic directions of the Immigration Partnership or Community Outreach Program (including support to other poverty reduction initiatives and projects as assigned) at the request of, and in full collaboration with, community groups, social agencies, neighbourhood associations, cultural or interest groups, education and health sectors, Business Improvement Associations, area and municipalities and other Region of Waterloo departments.

Ensures the continuous development of multi-sector partnerships critical to the implementation of the Immigration Partnership or Community Outreach Program by bringing key partners together for concrete problem solving tasks, such as the development, education, and implementation of an integrated immigration and settlement or poverty reduction strategy. Fosters a tangible commitment to collective responsibility for poverty reduction/settlement and integration of immigrants and refugees through social development. Communicates with multiple organizations and systems, as well as citizens, to ensure that partners are well versed in the social development practice framework.

Creates opportunities for joint planning and decision making between members of the Waterloo Region Immigration Partnership Council or Community Outreach Program and other organizations which have a stake in addressing the human, social, economic, and community determinants of settlement and inclusion of immigrants and refugees or poverty reduction.

Encourages organizational changes, including policy changes, which can contribute to inclusion and diversity of all individuals and a decrease in poverty by addressing the root causes of poverty.

Makes connections between Municipal, Regional, Provincial and National decisions, policies, and programs which have an impact on refugees and immigrants or poverty reduction at the local and neighbourhood levels.

Fosters communication regarding local issues such that they can be seen within the context of Federal and Provincial legislation and vice versa. Networks and maintains communication outside the Region for the purpose of receiving and providing information and encouraging policy changes and program development.

Trains member organizations and community partners in focused problem solving for inclusion and diversity or poverty reduction.

Provides or develops evidence-based resources to enable community action and capacity building. In collaboration with the Manager, develops and provides presentations, teaching aids, displays and a variety of other educational resources for citizens, organizations, professionals, and elected officials.

Maintains personal and public awareness of current immigrants and refugee issues or poverty issues with a focus on evidence-based research and good practices. Reviews community, provincial, national and international inclusion and diversity initiatives or poverty reduction initiatives and ensures that this information is disseminated through a variety of public channels and utilized for community-based decision making.
