**Job Description**:
The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) within RVH Children’s Development Services provides intervention to support infants and children with Occupational Therapy needs. This position will work within an interdisciplinary team to coach and support parents on the implementation of holistic, functional goals. The OTA is responsible for documenting and communicating all appropriate information to the OT they are working with and with other health team members, to ensure best possible care. The OTA will also support the sourcing and provision of appropriate equipment for preschool children.

**Education**:

- Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Rehabilitation Assistant Program; dual trained OTA/PTA program certification mandatory
- Possible consideration of Graduates of the Communicative Disorders Assistant Program

**Experience**:

- Knowledge of developmental disorders in infants and children
- Knowledge of a variety of intervention models including coaching and group and individual direct services
- Experience in an interdisciplinary setting focusing on family centred service planning
- Knowledge of normal development and early red flags
- Experience with equipment provision, augmentative communication, motor and regulation difficulties preferred

Competencies:

- Must possess sound judgment, tact, initiative and flexibility in adapting to a variety of intervention settings under significant workload expectations.
- Excellent organization and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with families and professional essential.

Other:

- Must have valid driver’s license and own vehicle

**Responsibilities**:

- Implements, under the supervision of the OT, intervention programs developed by the OT utilizing parent coaching with a variety of service delivery models including, direct, individual, group therapy and home programing.
- Implements, for children in OT intervention, communication goals developed and supervised by a Speech Language Pathologist.
- Assists supervising SLPs and OTs monitoring of treatment programs through regular feedback on client progress and program implementation.
- Has knowledge of appropriate preschool equipment and assists in provision of equipment under the supervision of the OT.
- Maintains accurate and complete client records, statistics and other data as required by the program policies and procedures.
- Assists SLPs/OTs with clinically based support duties.
- Participates in community and hospital committees/task groups as requested.
- Participates in the program quality improvement initiatives.
- Adheres to relevant guidelines regarding the use of Supportive Personal.
- Maintains clinic competency through regular attendance at continuing education programs including program clinical rounds.
