Edmonton, Canada The Gear Centre Group of Companies Full time

The Gear Centre Group of Companies includes multiple well-established organizations with branches across Canada and we are looking for a Finance Manager in our Edmonton, Alberta office.

Reporting to the CFO, the Finance Manager is responsible for treasury functions, Capital Asset accounting, general accounting and month end/year end related working papers and processes. The Finance Manager also mentors, oversees and supports property accounting staff and ensures compliance with company processes/controls and GAAP.

Primary Responsibilities
- Treasury and cash functions including the preparation of financial and cash flow information and projections, quarterly bank reporting and KPIs
- Contribute to completion of financial statements, other analysis and financial management reports
- General accounting functions including preparation and review of journal entries, intercompany transactions, month-end and year-end responsibilities
- Assist in the external auditing process to ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies & procedures and any relevant provisions of the Income Tax Act, Canadian Business Corporations Act or other statutory requirements and prepare year-end documents/reports
- Monitor and notify senior management regarding trends critical to the organization’s financial performance.
- Review and mentor the property accountant; drive decision on new ERP software and implementation

Accounting Policies and Procedures
- Together with the CFO and Controller, develop, implement and amend Accounting Department policies and procedures as required
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and Corporate procedures by department and branch staff
- Advise Managers regarding financial information and accounting procedures as they pertain to Operations.
- Develop and maintain reporting processes and prepare and present financial reports to management to facilitate decision-making processes
- Work with the System Analyst and other personnel to design and implement computer system changes to the accounting and financial operations

Staffing
- Assist with training new staff, problem resolution and provide support to facilitate efficiencies
- Hire, appraise performance and manage employee relations in conjunction with the Human Resources Department
- Manage and approve time sheets, vacation and absences from work
- Mentor and develop staff, including development of individual goals and objectives

Capital Assets
- Account for additions/disposals and transfers of assets in asset software
- Monitor assets in progress, coordinate with Operations for completeness and capitalize when appropriate
- Create amortization entries at month end

General Ledger Maintenance
- Approve/Create Journal entries for Treasury and Properties as required
- Ensure subsidiary ledgers balance to the appropriate GL account; troubleshoot issues and take appropriate corrective action

Other
- Process any reports or statistics as required by law, i.e. GST, PST, statistical & government reports
- Other assigned tasks and responsibilities required by the President & CFO

**Desired Qualifications**:

- University degree in Business/Accounting, Professional Designation (CPA) is preferred
- Minimum 5 years relevant mid-senior level accounting experience with supervisory responsibilities
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs included Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as the ability to adapt to other accounting software programs as required
- Excellent leadership, communication, presentation and problem solving abilities are essential
- Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management.
- Self-starter with a high level of critical and logical thinking; ability to analyze and identify underlying principles, processes, or facts
- Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
- Detail orientated and able to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to speak read and write English fluently
