Research Associate, Ocec, Indigenous Health

**Description**
Reporting to the Research Manager and additionally accountable to the Principal Investigator, this role will be working on the Indigenous Parallel Path of the One Child Every Child (OCEC) project and some contributions to other projects. The position exercises a degree of autonomy in research activities but requires the individual to have strong communication and teamwork skills. Because of the complex multi-staged nature of projects, the individual requires strong organizational and time management skills and strategies gained from previous research experience. The Research Associate will be required to demonstrate strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills, work collaboratively with departmental and interdepartmental teams and work independently in performance of day-to-day activities.
One Child Every Child is a Parallel Paths project that has Indigenous and non-Indigenous Paths. All members of the program will perform training on work with Indigenous people, communities and data. Experience with Indigenous community-based work is an asset for members of the OCEC research team.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Design and advise on processes and procedures regarding data collection and participant recruitment for qualitative research tasks including interviews and survey design
- Ensure team members are up to date and informed on progress and challenges of recruitment
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with Indigenous community partners and health care partners to ensure inclusion of all voices in the design and completion of the research project
- Complete and manage approvals as required by the research ethics board
- Participate in design and development of research processes including identification of methodologies, proposal development, recruitment strategies, and data analysis processes
- Advise project team if necessary changes or adaptations are required and undertake modifications of data collection instruments
- Collect, consolidate, cross-tabulate and format qualitative data (i.e., interviews, group discussions, field notes) from various sources to prepare draft analysis reports and manuscripts
- Analyze data in collaboration with research leads; Prepare research reports and analyses
- Generate project reports and research dissemination products as required by each project
- Generate presentations and posters on behalf of each project, to be used when presenting to various internal and external stakeholders
- Present reports to project team and stakeholders
- Conduct literature reviews, knowledge syntheses and assist with systematic reviews
- Lead the preparation of research reports and contribute to the writing of manuscripts resulting from primary research activities undertaken to be submitted for publication to appropriate scientific journals
- Work with team to develop and maintain the network communications for mentorship activities and research projects
- Provide mentorship and guidance of junior staff and students that are working collaboratively on research projects
- Demonstrate strong communication, team and interpersonal skills, and an ability to exercise judgment and take initiative to problem solve via conversation with team
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Graduate degree in health-related field (i.e. nursing, health sciences)
- 5+ years of experience in health care setting or health research in any of the following areas: Indigenous health, health services research, healthy policy or systems, health-related social science research and population/public health; A combination of education and experience will be considered
- In-depth understanding of community engaged research practices, principles as OCAP® (Ownership, Control, Access, Possession) and informed prior consent, and the Tri-Council Policy Statement 2, chapter nine
- In-depth understanding of ii¿ taa¿poh¿to¿p, and its key concepts, particularly parallel paths and ethical space
- Experience working with equity-deserving communities, particularly engaging with community members
- Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research design, methods, and methodology
- Strong inter-cultural communication skills
- A background in community or patient engagement and service user involvement is beneficial to the role
- Experience and knowledge of university research ethics procedures is required
- Experience doing interviews or focus groups in a health research environment is required
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and survey software (e.g. Qualtrics) Experience with quantitative (e.g. SPSS/STATA) software and qualitative analysis software (e.g. NVivo) required
