The person in the role is responsible for program design, and for creating appropriate tools for program implementation and reporting. The coordinator acts as a resource contact introducing and orienting newly arrived Indigenous people to city life, or people experiencing their first episode of homelessness, and providing intensive case management rooted in Indigenous values and using a holistic, trauma informed approach. This person helps to reduce cultural shock through guidance, assistance, and education towards a healthy, positive, and culturally safe urban life.

- Through contacts, develop information systems to identify Indigenous people travelling to Montréal before they arrive, and if possible, meet them on arrival at key transportation hubs (airport, bus, etc.).
- Offer intensive support, accompaniment, and intervention to people at risk of homelessness as they arrive in Montreal.
- Assess needs and make recommendations by offering an introduction to city life using an approach that encompasses Indigenous values and world views (e.g., experiential learning, versus a paternalistic approach).
- Refer and support people to the appropriate resources, facilitate their access to services, and ensure follow-up.
- Provide holistic trauma-informed and comprehensive case management services, including initial assessment, development of intervention plans, progress monitoring and referral.
- Establish a bond of trust with the participants through active listening and positive interactions.
- Track statistics and write reports for the program.
