**Payroll & Benefit Specialist**
**Reports To**:Director, Human Resources
**Summary**
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for assisting with the completion of day to day payroll and benefit responsibilities as assigned by the Director of HR and in conjunction with the Payroll /Benefits Specialist. These responsibilities could involve payroll processing, payroll entries, reporting and other functions related to payroll, benefits and HR.
**Responsibilities**:
- Back up for bi-weekly payroll
- Enter payroll information into the payroll/HRIS system (Vista) for bi-weekly payroll processing including full cycle processing
- Ensuring employee information is completed for all new hires
- Run and process reports for month end
- Ensuring all employee related documents are filed, both in employee paper files and electronically in PDS Vista
- Drafting documents including employment verification letters, compensation change letters, etc.
- Running reports in Vista as requested.
- Runs reports and completes some analysis using advanced functions in Excel including pivot tables, vlookup functions, etc.
- Assists with data entry of employee information into the HRIS system as required
- Assists with benefits administration including updating the administrative portal, providing employees with benefits change documents and answering questions as required.
- Assists with the disability claim process including submitting employer forms, checking the admin portal for claim updates and relaying updates to human resources as required.
- Complete journal entries for various accounting systems
- Assists with reconciliations (WCB/Benefits/ Ont EHT/BC EHT)
- Participates in the annual audit process including providing documentation to auditors as required
- Prepare and submit source deduction remittance payments
- Support the payroll year end processes and processing such as T4 balance and process
- Other duties as assigned.
**Education/Experience**:
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation through CPA
- 5+ years’ experience processing full cycle payroll
- Strong reporting and analytical abilities
- Accounting knowledge
- Experience with benefit administration
- Experience with year-end payroll processing
- Previous experience with a payroll system/PDS Vista is an asset
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism
- Ability to learn new concepts and software quickly
