Health and Safety Coordinator

**Position Summary**
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating safety systems and to identify inherent risks and make recommendations to ensure compliance. They also coordinate site safety Inspections at branches and jobsites. You'll be at the forefront of our Company Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Program, working hands-on with the workforce to uphold safety standards and regulatory compliance. **Responsibilities**
Develop and implement safety training programs for employees at all levels.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
Coordinate and deliver comprehensive new worker orientations, including onboarding and mandatory training.
Facilitate in-person and virtual Health & Safety training sessions
Ensure consistent implementation of the Health & Safety Policy across all levels of the organization
Inspect workplaces for potential hazards
Deliver safety orientation and training sessions
Investigate concerns or complaints from workers
Inventory safety related training of workers, maintain database on PPE Inventories
Provide guidance and support to managers in maintaining safety systems, ensuring compliance and best practices.
Monitor OH&S Standards and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance with applicable municipal, regional, Provincial and National standards
Complete regular inspections and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of Health & Safety systems and procedures; identify potential risks and recommend necessary improvements.
Make recommendations for policy and procedure updates that align with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
Assist in the planning and startup of new projects with respect to safety issues.
Respond to employee safety inquiries and coordinate communication across all departments as needed
Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures for all work locations.
Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.
Collaborate with supervisors and managers to implement control measures for potential workplace hazards.
Monitor employee training card expiration dates and maintain accuracy in the Safety Portal
Produce Monthly training reports for Management Review
Ensure employees mandatory training is up to date and upcoming expiries and scheduled to prevent workers from becoming non-compliant
Additional duties as assigned and agreed upon
Serve as the primary contact for all safety-related inquiries and concerns.
Chair and attend all Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings as required for the workplace.
Prepare and distribute agendas and minutes for health and safety meetings, and follow up on all action items to ensure matters are resolved in timely manner.
Prepare, in collaboration with the JHSC, any and all recommendations to Management. Document and track progress and report to JHSC.
Support and promote Human Resources department initiatives and provide assistance in the absence of HR personnel
Coach employees on working safely. Intervein when unsafe conditions or behaviours are observed
Monitor and track certification requirements for employees
Able to work closely with cross-functional teams, particularly in operations and management.
Conduct Health & Safety inspections at branch locations, job sites, document findings and reporting required corrective actions.
Regularly monitor safety compliance of workers and subcontractors; conduct site inspections and institute remedial action if required
Conduct field level safety meetings, tool box talks, and health and safety informational awareness.
Coordinate regular meetings with management to review safety issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events
Maintain a visible presence in the field by conducting site visits on a regular basis
Ensure all field employees are certified to perform job tasks safely and properly and qualifications are maintained as per company standards
Prepare monthly health and safety topics and material for discussion at site Toolbox Talks meetings
Focus on Field operations, providing coaching and mentoring to create a continuous environment of Safety First
Oversee WSIB Clearance Certificates
Help coordinate return-to-work programs
Maintain statistics and records and monitor accident/incident frequencies and safety violations; assist in investigations and complete related documentation.
**Skills**:
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective training development.
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
**Qualifications**
- A bachelor's degree or college diploma in occupational health and safety is an asset
- Minimum 1 year experience as a safety professional in the Service indust
