**Start date**: June 19, 2023
**Background**
The Toronto United Church Council (TUCC) works with the church community to connect resources with ministry, offering access to professional advice, financial support, and leadership development. As part of its growing range of services, TUCC manages church buildings that do not have an active congregation. This management can include property oversight, building assessments, working with property staff and tenants, along with helping to support the upkeep of the building and grounds.
**Position Summary**
The Intern will work under the direction of the TUCC Director of Property Management Services, to complete project-based tasks, in support of their portfolio of properties. These tasks may include periodic visits to the various properties in and around the GTA, assessing their condition, providing administrative support, liasing with suppliers, etc.
Property Management in a real-world setting, with a high number of church buildings, most of which are 100 to 150 years old.
The Assistant Property Manager will join an eleven-person staff team at TUCC, who work in a hybrid workplace model (home/office). Shared support services include accounting, marketing & communications, and administrative support. The Assistant Property Manager will mostly work independently, travelling from property to property, using their own computer. Most collaboration at TUCC is handled with Microsoft Teams. Access to software needed for the Intern’s work will be provided at TUCC’s cost.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
Project-based tasks may include, but will not be limited to:
- Assessing the current physical state of a building
- Identifying property management issues.
- Reviewing staff and tenant satisfaction levels.
- Identifying areas of improvement, including lowering expenses.
- Other duties and projects as assigned to support TUCC.
**Core Requirements**
- Troubleshooting
- Working independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Some experience with building mechanical systems
- Some experience with tenant relations e.g., leases
- Clean driving record
- Access to a vehicle
- Excellent software skills with MS Office.

The Assistant Property Manager - Internship offers practical work experience and an introduction to supporting and improving building and property. This internship will involve challenging opportunities, real world projects, and regular interaction with staff. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a growing field.
**Remuneration and Working Conditions**
- The position is part of the Canada Summer Job Program/Internship and compensation will be $20/hour. It is a full-time, short-term contract and the period of employment will be 8 weeks at 35 hours a week.
- Completion of required workplace safety and other United Church of Canada training courses.
- The position may be done remotely, but proximity to Toronto to visit the TUCC offices at 49 Bogert Ave, Toronto is desirable.
- A travel allowance of 55 cents per kilometre is provided, as the position will require extensive daily travel.
**Reporting & other Relationships**
This position reports to the Director of Property Management Services
