**- Reporting to a Regional Manager, working in a multi-disciplinary team environment, the Grounds Team Leader will be responsible for managing the grounds maintenance and landscaping improvement program for approximately 140-150 schools and facilities in a designated region. _
- The Grounds Team Leader will ensure grounds and sites are safe and well-maintained, in compliance with engineering standards and building regulations.**Summary of Duties**:
- Provides leadership and direction to staff in the grounds maintenance and landscaping improvement program (e.g., paving, turf, concrete walks, landscaping, turf, storm and sanitary sewers, fencing, playscapes and snow clearing) within a region;
- Liaise with Facility Team Leaders, principals and superintendents to establish client requirements;
- Liaise with maintenance team leaders, head caretakers, caretakers, trade staff and Regional Manager;
- Optimize the use of allocated resources, including planning, delivering and evaluating services;
- Administer the acquisition, distribution and use of resources;
- Supervise scheduling and completion of grounds maintenance, minor maintenance, including SAP PM work order management system;
- Coordinate the grounds and site repair program with trades staff;
- Schedule maintenance;
- Respond to emergency situations;
- Monitor grounds service contracts within responsibility to ensure maximum effectiveness and adherence to specifications;
- Responsible for the supervision and training of staff, including leadership, motivation and facilitating team building to improve productivity;
- Participate in interviews and make recommendations in the hiring of staff;
- Prepare performance reviews and evaluations, provide solutions to enhance performance, and determine disciplinary action where appropriate;
- Respond to and resolve labour relations related issues in accordance with collective agreement provisions, policies and procedures, and in consultation with Employee Services;
- Ensure appropriate standards are developed and followed for continuous improvement and quality initiatives in service delivery;
- Ensure compliance with the preventive maintenance program;
- Ensure applicable work processes are documented and followed, and inspect work to ensure the outcome meets objectives;
- Make recommendations for improvements to grounds equipment and systems;
- Respond to inquiries from both within and outside TDSB, including questions and concerns raised by the community;
- Conduct effective meetings, establish networks for information-sharing, and prepare reports to various stakeholders;
- Manage operating budget, including monitoring expenditures, investigating variances and analyzing monthly expenditure reports;
- Negotiate service levels, resources and commitments;
- Evaluate and recommend purchases of new equipment;
- Promote safe work practices, in compliance with applicable legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act);
- Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services; and
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Three year community college certificate in a relevant discipline and certification in a recognized property management program (e.g., F.M.A., C.P.M.) or qualifications in a certified horticultural/arboricultural discipline with six years of relevant experience within a large multi-site, multi-union environment in a property management capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Site services and landscaping knowledge;
- Supervisory experience, with strong leadership, mentoring and team building skills;
- Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
- Conflict resolution and mediation skills;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with others;
- Understanding and working knowledge of related policies, procedures and collective agreement provisions, government regulations, legislation, building codes;
- Demonstrated ability to manage a budget;
- Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity; and
**Special Requirements**:
- Provision of own vehicle for Board business.
- Requires regular travel across the TDSB.Available on call evenings and weekends to respond to issues and emergency situations
