**The Position**:
The Grounds Manager is responsible for the management and maintenance of exterior grounds, green roofs and parking lots for a 22 acre Campus. This includes the planning and implementation of groundskeeping activities such as landscaping, snow removal, planting and civil works. The Grounds Manager will also be responsible to manage and monitor contracted services related to equipment maintenance and groundskeeping activities including the supervision of grounds staff.

**Specific Accountabilities**:
As a “hands on” manager, provide direct service delivery, work plans development and coordination of the activities of the Grounds Maintenance team, in order to ensure the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the Campus.

Develop a snow maintenance plan confirming appropriate equipment, resources, and arrangements are in place to maintain safety throughout the campus. Monitor winter conditions and adjust work plans to ensure critical snow removal activities are completed prior to morning school operations.

Develop a monthly maintenance schedule to perform exterior grounds maintenance and tasks including operational checklist.

Perform preventative landscaping maintenance tasks on exterior grounds such as grass cutting, weeding, aeration, etc.

Assess feasibility and priority of maintenance requests for exterior grounds.

Monitor contracted services and service contractors to ensure quality and effectiveness of services.

Work with the Director, Facilities to develop and prepare maintenance and long-term capital replacement plans for exterior grounds to maintain conditions and mitigate risk of end of life equipment.

Prepare and monitor the Grounds budget including invoice review and approval.

Oversee site cleanliness (litter & garbage removal) across the entire Campus.

Provide support in parking management during school events.

Hire, develop, and assess performance of team members in accordance with the policies of the organization and best human resources practices.

Provide annual training to staff, and update the safety procedures and policies on equipment use.

Foster a team environment by clarifying team goals, valuing team input, building the commitment of team members, strengthening the team’s collective skills and encouraging creativity and problem solving.

Monitor and approve overtime/vacation for team members and submit to payroll on a monthly basis.

Provide support to other Facilities staff in the setup or movement of furniture and equipment.

All other duties which may be requested by management.

**Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience**

7 or more years experience in both large scale grounds maintenance activities and management of direct reports.

Must have a valid Class G vehicle operator’s license.

Ability to safely operate large machinery, i.e., snow plows, tractors, wood chippers, top dressers etc.

Good general knowledge of landscaping maintenance, plant materials and other landscape materials i.e., interlock paving, etc. in order to be able to access and assign work projects either to internal staff or outside Contractors.

Experience maintaining turf fields is an asset.

Good “eye for detail” and able to perform meaningful and accurate inspections of the property to be able to assess work required or to inspect work performed for conformity to specifications.

Ability to read blueprints.

Able to use small power hand tools for the performance of repairs and installations.

Participate in crisis management protocols to secure the grounds in the event of an emergency.
