**Job Summary**

**Main Responsibilities**
- Understand, implement, and live CN’s Indigenous vision and strategy and approach matters in an enlightened and respectful fashion.
- Be the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in guiding the hiring campaigns.
- Develop and maintain relationships with career fairs in Indigenous Communities, assist HR team during the event, if required and help identify Indigenous talents in areas CN needs to recruit.
- Identify the causes of retention issues, by leveraging data, internal and external relationships as well as with benchmark and trends on the external market and lead the development of programs and initiatives to improve retention rates, as well as the review of some policies.
- Develop and deploy programs and other initiatives to give Indigenous employees opportunities to grow at CN.
- Review and revised the Cultural Awareness Program (add a regional component) and ensure all employees at CN, as well as Management and CN Board of Director receive appropriate training.
- Find opportunities for CN employees to get involved in Indigenous cultural events (better leverage some CN sponsorships like powwows and have CN employees attend, and organise CN celebration for the NIPD, the Orange Shirts Day, etc.)
- Be a resource for the ERG and help them in their initiatives.
- Lead the Canandian Council for Aboriginal Business, Progressive Aboriginal Relation (CCAB PAR) certification for the Employment Pillar of the certification - be the liaison with HR to capture progress and ensure actions are implemented according to our plan.
- Understand the overall business plan and the role that Indigenous Relations plays in supporting the strategy and initiatives.

**Working Conditions**

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. The role may require frequent travel within the assigned territory (Western, Eastern, and Southern regions of CN’s network).

**Requirements**:
**Experience**
- Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience

**Education/Certification/Designation**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, Indigenous Studies, or another related field

**Technical Skills/Knowledge**
- Knowledge of CN Operations and Network, and Indigenous communities
- Understand the culture, history, nuances, rituals, organizational structures, symbolism and social complexities of Indigenous communities.
- Understand the physical placement of CN’s right-of-way network by being familiar with facilities, subdivisions and track profiles.
