Hiy̓ám̓ Housing Society is an incorporated non-profit Society, formed in 2019 by the Squamish Nation Council as part of its strategic priority to house every Squamish member within a generation. The Squamish Nation has occupied and governed the territory since beyond recorded history. The Squamish Nation's culture is rich and resilient. We continue to practice our customs and traditions, which are strongly interconnected with our traditional territory. Together with our lands, our customs and traditions are the foundations of who we are as Skwxwú7mesh.

Esḵéḵxwi7ch tl'a Sp'áḵw'us Place provides affordable homes with some supports for Squamish Peoples, prioritizing vulnerable women and their children and others at risk of homelessness.

General Purpose

The Kitchen Coordinator must work independently and be creative with meal planning and food costing for the tenants at Esḵéḵxwi7ch tl'a Sp'áḵw'us Place. This position will require one to build positive relationships with a diverse tenant population.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring healthy and safe work practices.
- Meal plan/food cost for two cold meals each day and one hot meal per month.
- Order inventory and create an inventory system for the kitchen supplies, ensuring sufficient stock levels.
- Store food in designated areas, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and food spoilage. Check food items in refrigerators, freezers, and pantry to ensure freshness.
- Utilize surpluses and dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect kitchen equipment and utensils to ensure sanitary standards are met weekly.
- Perform a weekly cleaning to ensure all major pieces of equipment are cleaned regularly.
- Create, review, and update menu options for special events according to the allocated budget.
- Establish, implement, and communicate menu recipe requirements.
- Ensure the safe storage and disposal of food and beverages.
- Ensure preparation and cooking stations are stocked appropriately.
- Notify the management team of any necessary kitchen appliance and equipment repairs or maintenance.
- Enforce proper sanitation and preparation practices and procedures.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures relating to kitchen coordination.
- Ensure a culturally safe environment

Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
- Experience in food services, including food preparation and menu planning.
- Able to adapt to changing situations and solve problems creatively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills: working with diverse groups and engaging with residents.
- Two years experience in quantity food preparation, cooking, and serving in quantity.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and be an organized person.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and some weekends, as required.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
- Valid Food Safety Certification
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds, sit, stand, squat, bend, climb stairs, crouch, reach, and kneel, and work in a fast-paced, fast-paced, indoor working environment.

Salary and Benefits

Pay: Up to $56,160.00 per year

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Cooking: 2 years (preferred)

- English (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Food Handler Certification (preferred)
- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
