**Summer Research Assistant Intern - Canada Summer Jobs Program**

**Approx. late June through August 2023 (9-week contract)**

**$15.50 per hour (30 hours per week, flexible scheduling)**

The George Hull Centre Institute of Childhood Trauma and Attachment is dedicated to the research, knowledge building and clinical treatment of trauma, with the aim of transforming the treatment of children affected by childhood traumatic stress.

The Institute is currently seeking a part-time Research Assistant Intern. This rewarding role will offer a passionate post-secondary student the opportunity to gain valuable and diverse research experience, and join a growing team dedicated to transforming how child and youth-serving sectors respond to children and youth who have experienced trauma. The Research Assistant may provide support in rolling up data, data entry, processing and verification, updating databases, implementation fidelity, communicating with participants, and chart audits. The Research Assistant Intern may assist with knowledge translation activities such as literature searches, preparation of tables and graphs, and assisting with preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and other materials. This position requires excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills to work effectively and strategically with diverse programs, staff and internal and external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who is completing, or is about to complete, a post-secondary degree and would like a variety of experience in the field.

The Canada Summer Jobs program provides funding to organizations, including those that provide important community services, to create opportunities for youths and students to gain work experiences. **Applicants must meet eligibility requirements of the program, including but not limited to the following: Youths/Students must be between 15 and 30 years of age and be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents. Immediate family members of current employees or members of the Board of Directors are ineligible for summer student positions. International students are ineligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program.**

**DUTIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES MAY INCLUDE**:

- Supporting data collection process and compliance with standard operating procedures;
- Scheduling participant visits and follow-ups;
- Obtaining and maintaining informed consent;
- Assisting in administering structured questionnaires;
- Data entry and conducting data quality checks;
- Maintaining research documentation according to regulatory guidelines;
- Organizing study files and performing other research administrative tasks, as appropriate;
- Supporting the preparation of manuscripts, training materials, and other written documents;
- Assisting the study team with data analysis;
- Assist in producing reports and presentations;
- Conducting literature searches, synthesis, and providing support for manuscript preparation and grant submissions.

**QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS**:

- Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an accredited College/University in a social sciences or health sciences degree.
- Proficiency with Windows-based operating systems and Microsoft Office (Excel PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions fully.
- Detail oriented with demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to produce high quality and accurate work while meeting program deadlines and requirements.
- Superior interpersonal, communication (oral/written skills) are required along with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Previous experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research considered an asset.
- Previous experience with data entry and data cleaning considered an asset.
- Previous experience working or volunteering in a health services, research or academic setting considered an asset.
- Familiarity with statistical software such as SPSS is considered an asset.
- Familiarity of basic clinical rating scales and scoring and reporting would be an asset.
