**About Oak Learners**

Oak Learners is a private alternative school and learning centre, offering a full-time day school as well as a wide variety of academic and arts-based programming, including tutoring, music, art, outdoor learning, dance, yoga, day camps and more.

Our summer camp program offers a unique camp experience designed to engage naturally inquisitive and active children. Campers will spend the day doing a variety of planned activities which are both indoors and outdoors, with a focus on creativity, mindfulness, STEAM, and Community. They will learn, explore their creative side, have fun and make new friends.

**Job Summary**

Reporting directly to the Camp Director, camp counselors are responsible for planning and supervising groups of children in a summer camp environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Leading a group of campers in various activities, both indoors and outdoors, while ensuring the safety of all campers for the full summer camp season.
- Creating and maintaining a fun and engaging environment for campers
- Modeling appropriate behaviour and positive interactions
- Communicating clearly and professionally in all interactions with campers, parents, co-workers, and camp directors.
- Problem solving and adapting quickly to changing situations
- Following all daily cleaning and organization procedures
- Arriving on time and being prepared for every camp day, from start to finish.
- Carrying out other reasonable duty requests from the Camp Coordinator, Program Coordinator or a member of the Management Team

**Required Skills an Experience**
- 2-3 years of experience working or volunteering in camp environments.
- 2-3 years of post-secondary education preferred in an education-related field.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to assume responsibility, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision
- Vulnerable Sector Screening (required)
- CPR C & First Aid Certificate (required)
- Applicants must be able to work on-site, starting June 12, 2023 through to August 25, 2023
- This temporary job is funded by the Canada Summer Student Job program. Successful applicants will be post-secondary students who are enrolled as a full-time student in a post-secondary institution for September 2023.

Contract length: 10 weeks

**Salary**: From $15.50 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Etobicoke, ON M8Y 2R3: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- Secondary School (required)

**Experience**:

- Working with children: 1 year (required)
