Job Description: At Cafe Pastel, we are seeking an experienced and skilled pastry chef to join our team at our bakery cafe. As our pastry chef, you will be responsible for creating and modifying our menu of cakes and pastries according to seasonal availability and customer demand. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing inventory, ensuring food safety standards are met, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and cafe environment.
**Must be already residing in Toronto**
**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Design and create new pastry and cake items for our menu
- As we are a cake bakery, chef must know how to bake standard sponge cakes and adapt our cake menu
- Modify menu items according to seasonal availability and customer demand
- Manage inventory and order supplies as needed
- Setting up kitchen for daily operations
- Organize daily baking schedule amongst self and baking team
- Produce accurate, consistent and quality baked goods (Quality Control)
- Ensure team is in compliance of all policies and procedures when baking in the kitchen
- Responsible for cleanliness, efficiency, dress code and organization in kitchen
- Tracking items wasted and implement methods and strategies to reduce waste
- Experiment, implement and present new menu items to team
- Maintain a fast pace kitchen environment while producing large scale bakes
- Maintaining consistent and clear communication with team and owners on a daily/weekly basis o Ensuring any mistakes are being reported in a timely manner o Ensuring training reports are written and submitted in a timely manner
- Managing float position to support colleagues in putting together products on order. Jumping into accepting orders and delivering orders as needed.
- Reports directly to owners and company management
**Qualification**
- Food Handling Certificate
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in commercial kitchen
- Minimum 2 years of baking experience
- The ability to work in fast‐paced environmental to produce consistent baked goods
- Thorough and detail‐oriented with reports and communication with team and superiors
- Ability to scale recipes to small or large quantities
- Excellent time management skills
- Effective communication skills
- Exceptional customer service skills

**Salary**
Negotiable based on passion and skill level
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
