**Accounting Supervisor**

The Accounting Supervisor is a new position at SCS which has the responsibility of supporting and supervising the day-to-day transactional expense processing function in support of the financial reporting and financial analysis processes. This position will suit an individual with initiative, who has strong attention to detail, and is interested in learning new skills. You are driven to find efficiencies and well versed in teaching and collaborating well with others.

**The responsibilities you will be entrusted with include**:

- Supervising the activities and operations of the accounts payable and accounts receivables processes;
- Developing, coaching, training and motivating three direct reports. This includes providing regular positive and constructive feedback, identifying development opportunities and measuring performance against established benchmarks.
- Ongoing monitoring and review of day to day financial transactions to verify expenditures are within budget, that established processes are being followed, the internal control structure is maintained and transactions are accurately recorded.
- Identifying areas of process improvement and collaboratively implementing effective solutions.
- Reviewing all payments and ensuring they are appropriately authorized and substantiated.
- Performing Vendor Maintenance in the accounting system and setting up new Vendors
- Preparing adjustment journal entries and month-end expenditure accrual as needed
- Supporting the development of our monthly financial statements, and external and internal reporting which includes non-financial data metrics
- Providing support as needed to our budget preparation process and year end financial audit,
- Ensuring all transactional polices procedures are documented and promptly revised;
- Corresponding with all SCS staff and responding to inquiries in a timely manner
- Working in collaboration with other teams and services to improve processes and support project implementation;
- Performing other reasonable duties as assigned

**What you bring**:
Ideally, you bring experience in processing high volume financial transactions and experience building and supervising teams. Your friends and colleagues would describe you as friendly, detail oriented and someone who is comfortable with emerging technology and automation. You possess strong skills in reporting writing, planning, collaborating with others and possess a love of learning new things. You don’t shy away from holding others accountable to their commitments and enjoy creating and developing resources that help others.

In addition to these desirable traits, you also ideally bring:
**Language Profile**: English Essential. Fluency in both official languages is a strong asset;
**Education**: A University degree or College diploma in accounting or business, though an equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted;
- Enrollment in the CPA program is a strong asset;
**Skills**:

- A minimum three to six years of progressive accounts payable process experience, ideally in a high transaction volume environment;
- Minimum two years of experience with supervising others;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Intermediate or Advanced Excel skills required;
- Experience with Great Plains, Power BI and SharePoint are assets;
- Previous experience in a non-profit environment is an asset

**Location & commitments**:This is a full-time permanent position.

**Working Conditions**:
SCS offers a hybrid working environment where work is completed at home or at our head office. It is expected that employees come into the office at their expense when requested. There are frequent interruptions, tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
