**About the role**
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a **Regular full-time Lead, Media and Public Relations** join our dynamic **Communications** team.

The **Communications** team is responsible for managing all aspects of communication for Canadian Blood Services to both internal and external stakeholders. This includes creating and disseminating messages, coordinating with various departments, managing public relations efforts, handling media relations, crafting visual and written content, and ensuring that communication strategies align with the organization's goals and values.

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Communications, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of national media strategies that will positively enhance the role and reputation of Canadian Blood Services across the country. You will be the primary national media contact for Canadian Blood Services and works under the direction of the Manager, Strategic Communications to align with a team of specialists who support localized media relations. You will advise on national media opportunities and work to proactively support and grow relationships with media and key contacts.

You will proactively identify and recommend creative opportunities to amplify Canadian Blood Services activities, needs, and achievements. You will also be responsible for monitoring (measuring) and reporting on media activity, identifying gaps, and recommending solutions, and ensuring excellence in coverage. Where required, acts as a spokesperson with national media in French and English.

In addition to executing activities in the traditional earned media space, you will assist in identifying potential stories and issues that can be amplified through multimedia platforms including video interviews and “edited stories,” podcasts, infographics and targeted social media campaigns.

**Formula for success**
- Leveraging your strategic communication skills, you will identify and recommend positive public relations opportunities and strategies to advance the organization’s brand and raise the profile of Canadian Blood Services.
- Channeling your writing prowess and media insight, you'll craft content and pitch targeted, relevant story opportunities to national media.
- Utilizing your multimedia expertise, you will assist in producing engaging video, audio, and other multimedia content.
- Drawing on your analytical capabilities, you'll closely monitor and analyze media coverage, reporting on trends and key performance indicators.
- Employing your expertise in media relations, you will act as the primary contact for national and international media, leading logistics for various media events.
- Harnessing your training and preparation skills, you will support media training and prepare spokespeople for effective communication strategies.

**Desired education and skills**
- Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, or journalism from a recognized academic institution.
- Minimum five years of work-related experience at the professional level in public relations, strategic communications, media relations, issues management or journalism. Experience in a health care setting is an asset.
- Experience in dealing with national media, and maintains a solid network of contacts.
- Experience developing plans and campaigns that integrate earned media with broader public relations strategies.
- Ability to think strategically and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of digital communications and demonstrated experience producing content for organic social media.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills in English and French are required.
