**The Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager of the Emergency Department, Trauma Center, and Atlantic Canada Poison Center. The Nova Scotia Antidote Program assists in coordinating access to a standardized collection of antidotes in every emergency department in Nova Scotia and provides a tool that outlines administration guidelines for each antidote. The Antidote Coordinator works with the Medical Director of the Atlantic Canada Poison Center and the individual NS Health Zones to ensure antidotes and administration guidelines are kept current, and education is provided to clinical partners as needed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Works collaboratively with the Director/Manager of each emergency department and pharmacy in the NS Health Authority, to provide education, support and expertise in the adequate stocking and administration of antidotes.
- Ensure that systems of routine replacement and recirculation of antidotes are in place.
- Promotes a high quality of care for all patients in Nova Scotia who may present to any emergency department in Nova Scotia with a toxicological emergency.
- Provides learning and research opportunities for Health Professionals within the Atlantic Canada Poison Center and Province.
- Oversees the usage of the antidotes, ensures current treatment regimens are met and thereby promotes optimum patient outcomes and efficient, cost effective treatment of toxic ingestions and exposures.
- Promotes a collaborative relationship between the Atlantic Canada Poison Center and Emergency Departments across the province in providing the highest standard of care for the poisoned patient.
- Demonstrates practice that is evidence based, organized according to priority, and that is consistent with professional, legal and ethical requirements of one’s professional discipline and of the IWK Health Center.
- Maintains and updates the Antidote website as required. Updates the antidote monographs online in consultation with the Medical Director and in accordance with current medical literature and consensus guidelines.
- Provides written reports to the Provincial Antidote Advisory Committee and transcribes minutes from these bi-annual meetings.
- Distributes quarterly reports to each health zone highlighting utilization and updates regarding antidotes.

**Your Qualifications**:
- Current registration or eligible for registration with the appropriate professional licensing or credentialing body, i.e. College of Registered Nurses (CRNNS), Canadian Society of Pharmacy, required.
- Previous experience as a Poison Information Specialist is required.
- Certification as a Specialist in Poison Information, required.
- Experience, and/ or demonstrated strong interest in development of similar projects would be an asset.
- Understanding of standards of care in the treatment of toxicology patients including pharmacology of specific poisons and the associated and variable dosing of their antidotes.
