**Assistant Bailiff Coordinator**
Kennedy House has a long and fine tradition of providing personal care for young people in the Greater Toronto Area. We started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and have added along the way additional residential programs, a state-of-the-art secure custody/secure detention facility, bailiff services, day treatment programs, shelter services, developmental services and outreach community services in designated priority neighborhoods.
Kennedy House works with youth to enable them to grow as individuals to contribute to as members of the community. This is achieved by providing customized support and building trusting relationships. This is currently a full-time male position, available at our Youth Centre in Ajax, Ontario.
**Job Summary**
The position of Assistant Bailiff Coordinator is a key component of the Kennedy House Youth Centre Bailiff program mandated by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCCSS). It is anticipated that this service will not only address long term issues around transportation for the Region of Durham and other designated areas throughout Ontario, but will also play a key supporting role in our Secure Custody and Open Detention Transformation initiative for older youth. This program will remain a separate entity, not functioning under the umbrella of the other Kennedy House programs. The Assistant Bailiff Coordinator will report directly to the Bailiff Coordinator and ultimately to the Senior Manager of Youth Justice Services.
**Major Responsibilities**
- Responsible for the supervision and management of all supporting staff (including casual staff).
- Acts as an Assistant Coordinator to oversee the Bailiff program.
- Ensures that all transportation expectations for youths including, court, medical appointments, and transfers between custody facilities and or other transportation needs are completed.
- Responsible for the 24/hour on-call system.
- Ensures that staff and self will be available to provide around the clock transportation services in a timely manner, ideally within a two hour window.
- Provides orientation for new staff.
- Conducts, writes policies and procedures reviews and develop protocols as required.
- Responsible for maintenance and usage of the agency vehicles as well as the cleanliness and safety checks, in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Ensures that all bailiff staff meet training requirements including PMAB, First Aid & CPR and Hand Cuffs in conjunction with the H/R Manager.
- Conducts and maintain statistics and prepare written reports as related to transportation.
- Liaises with other area facilities to facilitate transfers between these agencies as required.
- Ensures and completes documents as pertaining to bailiff staff, including transportation sheets, logs and court reports as required.
- Oversees the review, approval and processing of all time sheets, petty cash, gas and food receipts to ensure accuracy, timeliness and report to the Senior Accountant.
- Performs other related duties or as assigned
**Qualifications and Skills**
- Minimum educational requirement is some post secondary College education in Child and Youth Worker, Social Worker and / or Corrections, or a University degree in Social Science major and / or related work experience.
- Basic knowledge of developmental needs (intellectual, emotional, physical, and social) of young persons in care.
- Appreciation for the young persons’ need for stability and consistent care from adults.
- Demonstrated skills in direct relations to the function/task at hand.
- Ability to relate appropriately to young persons as well as to the families of each individual.
- Ability to write legible, clear and concise reports.
- Demonstrate maturity and reliability at all times.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid are mandatory.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License with a clear driver’s abstract.
- Certification in CPI is considered an asset
- Proficient using MS Excel, MS Word
