Partners for Action (P4A) is a research initiative that seeks to empower Canadians to become flood resilient by promoting awareness and preparedness actions that are inclusive and evidence based.

P4A conducts original research and partners with organizations across the country with the goal of influencing flood risk preparedness at the individual and collective level. We do this through stewardship of

Flood Smart Canada—a bilingual online portal for flood risk awareness and preparedness—supporting community-engaged flood risk awareness, preparedness, and adaptation, and contributing to policy development, flood resiliency planning, and foresight.

The GIS Research Assistant combines datasets to generate new analytical products and supports the production of policy-relevant advice for governments and practitioners. The analysis will be conducted at the national scale and will serve as a basis for policy briefs and scholarly publications.

**This role is contingent upon funding.**

**This is a part-time role working 14 hours per week.**

**Responsibilities**:

- Analyze vector and raster datasets pertaining to flood hazards and reserve lands in Canada
- Experience in processing and expressing open-access data using Python and R
- Collect GIS data of reserve lands in Canada and verify data quality
- Access open data portals, government websites and contact government representatives (when necessary) to access infrastructure data on reserve lands
- Conduct an analysis of infrastructure at risk of flooding on reserve lands and compute summary statistics of findings (e.g., number of buildings at risk)
- Digitize data (when necessary) using satellite imagery
- Compile metadata of datasets used for flood risk analysis (e.g., source of dataset, currency of data)
- Produce maps and other visuals for showcasing research findings
- Produce summary reports of research findings
- Participate in meetings with GIS Team Lead and regular updates with research team

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Highly competent conducting vector and raster analysis using ArcGIS and other geospatial software
- Existing experience accessing federal government datasets is an asset
- Existing knowledge of flood risk in Canada is an asset

- Experienced with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Experience with data visualization/dashboard tools an asset
