**About Us**:

**Primary Accountabilities**:
Reporting to the Director, Protected Areas & Ecosystems, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the implementation of conservation programs focused on expanding the network of protected and conserved areas in Nova Scotia. With funding through the Canada - Nova Scotia Nature Agreement, the Department takes a multi-pronged approach to advancing protection of biodiversity.

As the Manager you will be leading a team of professionals and providing guidance and oversight to provincial conservation efforts by advancing Nova Scotia’s Collaborative Protected Areas Strategy towards achieving the ambitious goal of protecting 20% of Nova Scotia’s land and water mass.

The Manager must provide effective management of fiscal and human resources and must contribute to operating effectiveness of the Sustainable and Applied Science Division through collaborative planning, program planning and implementation, reporting and evaluation.

You will work in a team environment with staff from multiple provincial departments, municipalities, Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq representatives, land trust partners, as well as contractors and conservation groups. You may also interact with industry and non-government partners, community groups, conservation and recreation organizations, and others to advance project goals.

Additionally, you will be involved in stakeholder and public partnerships and consultations, developing public communication materials, preparing reports and materials to support decision making. You may also be involved in policy development and process facilitation as required.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
A Bachelor’s degree in a related area of concentration (protected areas planning, environmental planning, conservation biology, outdoor recreation) is required.

You will be required to build relationships and demonstrate leadership qualities which promote teamwork and foster a safe work culture that encourages new ideas and innovative solutions.

You are a highly effective communicator, and you possess experience in leading teams in complex environments. You are committed to open communication, collaboration and consultation with staff, partners and stakeholders and adept at solving problems.

You must also demonstrate:

- Knowledge of relevant provincial legislation, regulations, policies, and programs relevant to land management in Nova Scotia.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to handle and organize large workloads, and a proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- An aptitude for dealing with complex issues, strong analytical skills and tact and diplomacy.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Nova Scotia and work irregular hours when deemed necessary.
