**Position Summary**

The Carruthers Student Commons is a gathering, collaboration, and study space for students, including dedicated spaces for Alberta School of Business clubs. Reporting to the Manager, Teaching and Learning, the Student Commons Lead is the first point of contact for visitors to the Carruthers Student Commons and is responsible for creating a welcoming, safe, and overall excellent visitor experience. The Carruthers Student Commons will be open seven days per week, with the Lead regularly working Monday-Friday during the day with occasional evening and weekend shifts as needed.

The Student Commons Lead is responsible for overseeing the operation of the student commons, including scheduling and supervising part-time staff, managing space booking and access, performing opening/closing procedures, training staff on how to use the technology in the space and supporting visitors with the technology as needed. The Lead will work with other University staff to host engaging events for students in the space. As a student-facing staff member of the School and University, the Lead will be knowledgeable about services that are offered for students and share that information with visitors to the space.

**Duties**
- First point of contact for students to find out information about students services on campus, including health and wellness supports and student advising
- Diffuses visitor-facing situations and identifies when to call for assistance
- Manages the booking system and space access for users
- Assists with recruitment of part-time staff; trains part-time staff on all aspects of running the space
- Leads team of staff that carry out operations of the space; creates schedule for part-time staff for Student Commons to cover hours of operation
- Carries out opening and closing procedures including unlocking the front door and door to the patio space
- Collaborates with the Business Students Service Offices (Undergraduate, Careers and Work Integrated Learning, Master’s and Professional Programs, PhD) to develop appropriate space use schedules and prioritization to ensure effective space use in alignment with the School's student experience and engagement strategies
- Assigns and manages access to lockers for student clubs
- Identifies opportunities for enhancing students’ experience in the student commons and works with staff to carry out ideas
- Works with staff to accommodate and coordinate activities and events for students (ex. paint night, yoga, etc.) and makes connections with contracted services as required to ensure success of the activities

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in a related field is required (i.e. Business, Education or Library and Information Studies or equivalent)
- 1-2 years of experience working in an office setting, preferably in a post-secondary environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Efficient/strong computer skills with an ability to learn software programs quickly
- Understands how to operate a panel system for sound in different zones
- Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a busy area with frequent interruptions
- Highly motivated, ability to work independently; proactive self-starter
- Demonstrates presence, self-confidence, sound judgment, and superior problem-solving ability
