**The Opportunity**
BioCanRx is seeking a dedicated Controller to oversee our accounting and finance operations. Reporting directly to the CEO and President, you will play a critical role in managing our financial health and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. **Responsibilities**
- Oversee the production of quarterly financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO).
- Produce annual and five year budget and forecast, reporting to Management team and Board of Directors.
- Manage the federal contribution funding, including strict adherence to government reporting and contribution agreement requirements.
- Ensure rigorous compliance with federal contribution agreement, including accurate and timely financial reporting to the Government of Canada.
- Provide financial analysis for budgeting, outgoing awards to ultimate recipients, and funding proposals.
- Recommend benchmarks to measure the company's performance.
- Manage all accounts receivable and accounts payable, including vendor bills, credit cards, expense reimbursements, and petty cash.
- Ensure accurate and complete journal entries into QuickBooks.
- Implement, communicate and monitor daily and weekly job-costing procedures for coding, invoices, recording and allocating time and overhead.
- Oversee all account transactions, including remittances, payment allocations, invoicing, and credit notes.
- Maintain a log of terms and conditions of contracts.
- Perform data integrity checks and reconciliations for GL, AR, AP, bank, credit cards, and major supplier statements.
- Ensure all tax reporting (GST/PST, payroll, etc.) is prepared, filed, and remitted as required.
- Document all accounting procedures and controls and develop procedures manual for ongoing reference and compliance for all accounting and finance functions.
- Point of contact for annual Audit.
- Lead interactions with the Audit and Finance Board Committee, presenting to the Board of Directors as needed.
- Onboard new staff for payroll and benefits setup.
**Requirements**:
- Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
- CPA accounting designation.
- 5+ years of experience in finance and full-cycle accounting.
- Proven experience managing all financials of an organization, including budgeting and forecasting.
- Strong trustworthiness, attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proactive and responsive to the needs of other Management Team and Board of Directors.
- Extensive experience with month-end close activities, accounting, and financial reporting.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working across departments and leadership teams to drive process improvement.
- Proficiency with accounting software, systems, and Excel for analysis and reporting.
**Nice-to-haves**
- Experience working with academics or in proximity to academic institutions.
- Experience with quarterly reporting to the Canadian government on a quarterly basis.
- Experience with government contribution agreements.
