**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
The City of Maple Ridge is seeking an experienced and dedicated individual as Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics. This is an administrative, supervisory, and specialized recreational role in developing, coordinating, and implementing aquatic instruction, recreation programs, activities, and services at both an indoor aquatic center and a seasonal outdoor pool. This position involves supervising aquatic recreation staff, conducting in-service training, overseeing pool maintenance and exercising considerable independent judgment within established policies and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring effective, high-quality, and efficient work performance, with regular performance reviews by leaders.

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**:
University graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or a related discipline plus sound related experience, including supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES**:

- Thorough knowledge of the aquatic needs of all ages
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of community aquatic recreation programs.
- Sound knowledge of theory and practice of lifeguarding, water rescue, resuscitation, and first aid.
- Sound knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques emphasizing instruction in water safety and aquatic skills.
- Working knowledge of pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorination, heating and related pool equipment and procedures.
- Ability to develop and promote a wide variety of aquatic programs and events under mínimal supervision.
- Ability to monitor the operation of aquatic facility equipment, make minor adjustments, and both recognize and initiate the need for more substantial equipment servicing.
- Ability to plan, assign, review, supervise and evaluate, directly or through subordinates, the work of staff and to recruit and train volunteers, and participate in the hiring of aquatic program staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts and groups and address audiences on matters related to the work performed.
- Ability to plan and facilitate staff and volunteer workshops related to the work performed.
- Ability to complete a variety of administrative tasks related to the work performed.

**REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATES**:

- Standard First-Aid (SFA) Certificate
- Basic Cardiac Life Support - Level “C”/Basic Rescuer and AED
- Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia_ _
- _Licenses and certificates must be current._

**HOURS OF WORK**:
Hours of work are governed by Schedule “B” (C & J) - based on an eight (8) hour day, forty (40) hour week, may be required to work more than five (5) consecutive shifts in a week or more than forty (40) hours in a week without overtime rates being paid.
