**POSITION OVERVIEW**

The City of Maple Ridge is actively seeking a Youth Program Assistant 1, to join our team. This role involves creating and coordinating engaging programs for youth aged 8 to 18. Work alongside dedicated professionals to ensure the smooth operation of our vibrant youth center, connecting with the community and stepping into leadership when needed. The incumbent judgment and ability to adherence to policies and procedures will ensure the quality of our supportive services. Join us in making a positive impact on the youth in our community.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**

Completion of a two-year program in recreation at a recognized community college and sound related community recreation experience; courses related to youth within a recreation setting are desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Sound knowledge of the social, cultural and recreational needs and interests of youth.
- Sound knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of community recreation programs for youth.
- Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and recreational instruction.
- Working knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work and of modern office methods and procedures.
- Ability to plan, develop and coordinate programs and activities and to provide leadership and instruction on same.
- Ability to assist a superior in coordinating and administering the operations of a centre.
- Ability to act for a superior for short absences and within defined limits.
- Ability to recruit, train and supervise volunteers and assist in the supervision of contract instructors.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with youth.
- Ability to prepare and maintain correspondence, records, reports, publicity and promotional material; perform related clerical tasks as required; and enter, revise, maintain and retrieve a variety of material using a computer terminal.
- Ability to supervise and/or participate in various recreational and social activities for youth.
- Skill in the operation of a variety of equipment used in the programs.

**LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES**
- Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia - Class 4.
- St. John’s First Aid Certificate or equivalent

**HOURS OF WORK**

**This is an Auxiliary position with no ongoing regular schedule of hours.**

**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**

The forecasted hours for this position are 20 hours per week.
