As the Chief Electrical Inspector in Edmonton, you'll lead the charge in ensuring the safety of electrical installations across the city. You're not just managing permits and inspections—you're orchestrating the entire operation for Residential, Commercial, and Industrial projects. - Provide leadership and direction to a work unit of Electrical Safety Codes Officers and clerical employees ensuring that operational requirements and both internal (COE) and external (Safety Codes Council) are achieved
- Responsible for the overall organisational structure of the sub-section, including making recommendations to the General Supervisor and Director on resourcing of the team and making decisions of work assignments (including volume) between staff and contractors
- Oversee staffing and hiring including the interview process, onboarding and ongoing training
- Provide technical input into the development of established operational requirements and performance standards
- Manage and monitor performance, provide ongoing feedback and coaching, establish performance improvement plans when necessary and evaluate performance of direct reports
- Approve and deliver discipline for the subsection up to and including terminations for standard and non-complicated situations, and recommend discipline up to and including terminations to the General Supervisor and Director when required
- Initiate, implement, evaluate and modify work plans in response to changing needs
- Authorise vacation, time-off and overtime for direct reports and for the subsection
- Work with direct reports to develop personal training and development plans and coach/mentor SCO IV’s when delivering development to the subsection
- Contribute to the the development of strategic and long term planning as a member of the section leadership team
- Implement and participate in building action plans in collaboration with adjacent safety code disciplines recognizing corporate goals and deliverables
- Ensure, track and report on the work unit's adherence to the Quality Management Plan and Safety Codes Act
- Implement changes recognizing ongoing updates to the Alberta Building Code, (National Electrical Code, National Plumbing Code etc.) training staff, on how it impacts permits, inspections and expectations
- Liaise with peers from other municipalities to contribute to, and adopt best practices in the industry. This allows for the development of discussions on code practices and showcases the ability to view potential issues in different manner, or conversely, to promote the development of segregated variances or aid in the development of provincial variances

**Qualifications**:

- Journeyman electrician certification recognized in Alberta and 6 years of relevant work experience as a journeyman electrician; OR
- Electrical engineering technologist diploma recognized in Canada and 8 years of relevant work experience after receiving that diploma; OR
- Electrical engineering degree recognized in Canada and 8 years of relevant work experience after receiving that degree
- Provincial Journeyman certificate for Electrical in the province of Alberta and Safety Codes Council certification as an Electrical SCO classification
- Active or ability to obtain Provincial Journeyman certificate for Electrical valid in the province of Alberta
- Active or ability to obtain Safety Codes Council certification Safety Codes officer in the Electrical discipline
- 5+ years experience related to inspections, including progressively responsible supervisory/management experience of a diverse team
- Thorough understanding of City, Branch and Section policies and procedures
- Advanced knowledge of the Safety Codes Act, and the Quality Management Plan
- Excellent writ
