The Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute (ABJHI) is an established and highly respected not-for-profit organization which uses the best evidence available to improve health care service delivery for people with bone and joint health conditions throughout Alberta.
ABJHI works closely with its valued partners, including universities, industry partners, the AHS Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network (BJH SCN) and other healthcare providers responsible for orthopaedic care.
Nature of Work
Reporting to the Directors of Operations (Administrative), the Communications Advisor is responsible for supporting both new and existing initiatives by creating corporate and project-specific strategic communications plans and executing tactics that support the communications objectives of ABJHI and its strategic partners.

**Responsibilities**:
Strategic Communications Planning
- Proactively align, deploy, and refine comprehensive strategic communications plans with measurable objectives.
- Raise and promote the profile of ABJHI and its partners among Alberta’s health care system, the research community, and the public.
- Ensure communications are audience-appropriate by researching the stakeholder landscape, testing key messages and concepts, and analyzing metrics.
- Provide ongoing communications support to project teams and directors to ensure communications are aligned, effective, and timely.
Content Curation
- Plan, develop, and curate content for digital communications (e.g. newsletters, social media platforms, corporate and project websites), fundraising and business development initiatives, and internal/corporate communications.
- Perform other duties for external and/or internal communications as assigned (e.g. developing patient stories, writing and posting news releases, writing reports and key messaging).
- Ensure brand management and alignment across communication portfolios.
- Communicate complex processes in simple terms.
Measurement and reporting
- Provide ongoing reports and feedback for continuous improvement and optimization.
- Compare results to goals and performance metrics to identify issues or trends that may assist in improving reach, awareness, and effectiveness of tactical plans.
- Provide timely and accurate information for various ABJHI meetings, including Leadership Team meetings, Board meetings, Stakeholder meetings etc.
- Manage website optimization including search engine optimization.
**Qualifications**:
Education: Relevant educational background and at least 5 years’ experience in a communications or marketing role.
- Experience in marketing or advertising, communications, project management, writing, editing, and web/digital communications.
- Experience in client management and collaborative projects.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills required in dealing with a range of situations, which may include complex, sensitive and confidential issues.
- Experience in responding to requests for information from the general public or internal clients.
- Public environment monitoring and analysis (including media, social media and stakeholders).
- Proficient with industry standard design and production software, such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects.
Other Valuable Qualifications
- Experience with Google Ad Grants would be an asset.
- Experience with graphic design would be an asset.
- Knowledge of the Alberta health care system would be an asset.
