Peterborough, Canada Upper Canada Fuel and Burner Full time

Upper Canada Fuel and Burner’s head office is located in Peterborough, Ontario with offices in Napanee, Oshawa and Kingston. The Finance Department is responsible for overseeing financial operations for all sites. This position is based out of Peterborough, but will require travel to the other sites.

The Controller will be responsible for the following activities:

- Reconciliation of recorded transactions with Suncor and exchange of funds; investigation of variances, update data in financial system as needed, report and resolve issues with Suncor and prepare correcting journal entries as needed; create receivable/payable invoices for fuel reimbursement and commissions for Des Customers and rebranding transactions
- Maintain and update Access database for Routers/Haulage and complete related invoicing
- Preparation of monthly and annual financial statements; assess for reasonableness; compare to budget and prior year and investigate variances
- Pricing Management: troubleshoot spreadsheet issues, update tax rates and delta rate changes in both excel spreadsheet and financial system; assist with Pricing at end of day as required
- Bank reconciliation and cash management
- Prepare and enter journal entries; maintain supporting documentation
- Monthly reconciliation of sub-ledgers to balance sheet accounts
- Prepare government requested statistical documents for submission
- Record and track capital assets and amortization; record amortization monthly
- Monthly reconciliation of taxable benefits, RSP/DPSP and benefit deductions with payroll reports; forward updates to payroll as necessary
- Computation of taxable benefits; ensure any supporting documentation completed by staff as necessary
- Computing sales staff commission calculation; maintaining sales matrix for computing commissions and updating sales staff data in financial system as needed
- Preparation of annual audit working papers
- Government remittance calculations and submissions (HST/FCT/WSIB/Payroll/Fuel Acquisition/Native Tax/PFT)
- Act as backup and day to day general support for other accounting functions (i.e. Payroll, AP, AR, Inventory Reconciliation)
- Identify, implement, maintain and monitor internal controls
- Assist staff with daily and monthly inventory reconciliations; troubleshooting technical issues with spreadsheets and update as necessary, assisting with variance investigation, training staff, monitoring to ensure reconciliations are both completed and accurate
- Review and approve daily margin reports for each site
- Review of all house accounts to ensure all procedures/controls are followed and allocation of in-house inventory usage to appropriate GL accounts (i.e. fuel usage)
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned
- Spot check petty cash amounts at each site monthly, review and approve petty cash reconciliations monthly; prepare petty cash purchase invoices and issue cheques as needed
- Monthly revaluation of inventory
- Monitoring bank covenants to ensure compliance
- Completing monthly overall HVAC earnings computation; completing per install profitability computation
- Reconciliation of propane purchases to supplier invoices and related adjustments; enter invoices into financial system
- Maintain master list of leases and associated financial reporting
- Oversight responsibility for Super Pass, Petro Pass, Napanee and Wolfe Island processing of transactions and related systems
- Ensure company fuel cards and transactions are properly allocated within financial system and audit transactions monthly
- Staff management and workload distribution for finance and administrative staff
- Other duties as assigned

**IT**
- Key contact for IT related issues and implementation of new systems
- Maintain master list of all computer equipment and systems including location, purpose, associated passwords, technical support contacts, user profiles etc.;
- Create and terminate employee user profiles as needed

**Rate of Pay**
- $90,000-$95,000 per year depending on experience and qualification profile

**Hours of Work**
- 8am to 5pm or 9am to 6pm

**Education & Experience**:

- Minimum five years related experience
- Completion of a University degree in accounting, finance or related field
- CPA designation is required
- Prior experience in accounting software
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products (i.e. Excel, Access)

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Accounting and Mathematical skills
- Excellent computer knowledge and ability to learn
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and business practices
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workflow and meet conflicting deadlines in a fast paced and high volume environment

- Clear ability to operate independently and use good judgement
- A team player, with excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills
