**MAAD-2003 Jewellery: Casting**

(0.5 credit, Fall 2023, in-person)

Traditional casting processes of lost wax, delft clay, and cuttlefish are introduced while technical, aesthetic, and cultural aspects of body adornment are investigated. A variety of model making techniques are explored including carving, modeling, mouldmaking, and rapid prototyping. Contemporary and historical examples from a variety of cultures are presented to illustrate concepts embodied in the projects. Note: This "Writing Across the Curriculum" (WAC) course is part of an initiative to support students in their disciplinary writing.

**MAAD-2011 Jewellery: Fabrication & Form**

(0.5 credit, Fall 2023, in-person)

An understanding and knowledge of intermediate skills required to create complex fabricated works are developed through assignments. The creation of mechanical devices and fasteners are included as a part of the skill development required. Drawing, model-making, research, and development are also emphasized.

**MAAD-2021 MAAD Applied History (Jewellery Pathway)**

(1.0 credit, Fall 2023 & Winter 2024, blended)

**MAAD-2023 Drawing/Rendering: Jewellery**

(0.5 credit, Fall 2023, blended)

Understanding of jewellery materials is deepened through observational drawing. Professional drawing and rendering techniques are introduced and practiced using analogue and digital media. Convincing two-dimensional drawing is utilized to communicate design elements and principles of resolved three-dimensional jewellery works. Physical references to actual jewellery materials are observed to accurately convey the properties of the materials. Methods for compiling visual research and presentation are covered.

**MAAD-3007 Jewellery: Structure**

(0.5 credit, Fall 2023, in-person)

**MAAD-4002 Jewellery: Production**

(0.5 credit, Fall 2023, in-person)

The production of a jewellery line is explored in all stages of development including concept, modelmaking, pricing, and marketing. Issues around value over volume are discussed. Design strategies for development of module components and multiples are implemented. A field trip to a studio jeweller or exhibition is part of the curriculum.

**MAAD-4901 MAAD Thesis Development (Jewellery Pathway)**

(1.0 credit, Fall 2023, in-person)

Material experimentation and making are investigated in depth, leading to the development of a self-directed body of work that addresses personal, social, cultural, or environmental issues. A proposal is prepared to articulate a conceptual direction, techniques, and processes of the intended body of work. Concept development, research, and technical processes are thoroughly documented.

**MAAD-4902 MAAD Thesis Realization (Jewellery Pathway)**

(1.0 credit, Winter 2024, in-person)

Building on material experimentation and research conducted in MAAD-4901 MAAD Thesis Development, a self-directed body of work in material art and design is further developed and completed. A thesis statement is prepared to articulate the conceptual and technical outcomes of the completed body of work.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews, participation in Faculty and program meetings; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
The successful applicant should have the following qualifications:

- A terminal degree in Jewellery/Metalsmithing. Equivalent professional/practical experience will be considered.
- Experience teaching studio courses at the post-secondary level. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- A demonstrated capacity to support the development of students’ independent studio investigations essential to teaching jewellery/metalsmithing at the post-secondary level.
- Working knowledge of jewellery designing and making using various metalsmithing methods, such as fabrication, casting, etc.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of students and faculty underpin all academic positions at OCAD U.
