The Human Resources Business Partner reports to the Senior Director, Human Resources and supports selected Canadian geographic locations in order to meet overall business goals and objectives as well as promoting an environment where employees feel valued. Responsibilities include a firm understanding of Stella-Jones mission and culture and communication of company policies and guidelines. The HR Business Partner is knowledgeable in Compensation, Benefits, Employee Relations, workman Compensation and Equal Opportunity Employment Programs. Acts as a Subject Matter Expert in Employee Relations and HR Processes. Collaborates with HR and Payroll team members to support the execution of strategies, programs and initiatives to drive organizational changes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partners with plant and regional management teams and identifies processes to align HR policies, procedures, and programs with company goals, objectives, and operating principles.
- Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedure, and reporting are in compliance.
- Communicates the company’s policy, philosophy and provides guidance on HR related matters in accordance to applicable legislations and internal policies and processes
- Monitor the pulse of each facility and partner with the leadership team to drive an inclusive, engaged high-performing culture within each plant and office.
- Develops and implements solutions for improvements within the core competencies of HR
- Partners with managers in appropriately resolving employee relations issues. Conducts employee investigations as appropriate.
- Lead organizational design discussions and support Ops leaders in organizational structure evaluation. Review current ops structure (including talent assessments and gaps) and recommend improvements to align operations with our future growth needs; identify opportunities for talent upgrade, employee development, redeployment and re-organization.
- Evaluate and manage the current compensation structure (hourly and staff) and make recommendations to improve market competitiveness. Manage existing corporate driven compensation and benefit programs as required.
- Identify, develop, and/or implement training programs for managers and employees, including management training, new hire training, skill building programs, cross-training across plants and training for employee development.
- Recruits for assigned client groups including operational and administrative positions.
- Maintains HR metrics to be utilized in strategic planning and effectiveness of HR related programs and processes.
- Maintains working relationship with union officials, adheres to contracts and participates in contract negotiations as appropriate.
- Maintains employee records, reports, and assists with updating organizational charts and job descriptions
- Prepares termination documentation, packages and ensures compliance with provincial and federal law.
- Collaborates in the new Digitalization project for all employee personal files (procedures and communication)
- Acts as a resource person to external Auditors providing requested reports, documents as well as validation of employee and payroll records.
