Winnipeg is a city of approximately 750,000 located on the Red River, 108 kms north of the US border. Being near the centre of Canada, it is a major transportation centre. The city's population is fairly diverse, representing people from many different cultures. Most of the people are English speaking with French, Filipino and Chinese being other predominant languages. There are about 65,000 First Nations people living in Winnipeg.
There are almost 50 Mennonite churches in Winnipeg, which is home to about 30,000 Mennonites. Winnipeg has two large public liberal arts universities and a Mennonite university (Canadian Mennonite University). There are also two Mennonite private high schools.
Winnipeg temperatures can range from 40°C (104°F) in summer to -45°C (-49°F) in winter, with average summer temperatures around 25.4°C (77.7°F) and average winter temperatures around -12.9°C (8.8°F).

**Qualifications**Job Synopsis**
- The Thrift Operations Assistant (TOA) collaborates in supporting operational needs for the MCC Thrift network in Manitoba. There are 16 MCC Thrift shops in 13 communities across Manitoba, contributing financial support to the work of MCC. Each shop is owned and operated by an autonomous volunteer Board of Directors and managed by paid or volunteer managers and management teams. The TOA works closely with the Thrift Coordinator in supporting retail operational needs for the provincial Thrift network.
The Thrift Operations Assistant will report to the Director of Social Enterprise while working closely with the Thrift Coordinator. The TOA is a member of the Thrift support team (together with the Thrift Coordinator) within the larger Social Enterprise department. The Thrift support team works collaboratively with provincial Thrift shop managers, board members, volunteers, MCCM colleagues and the National MCC Thrift network, as determined by the Thrift Coordinator.

**Requirements**:

- Certificate or diploma in communications, business administration, marketing, preferred; or two plus years of related retail/marketing experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication, organizational skills with attention to detail
- Proficiency in MS Office (Teams, Word, Excel & Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to develop and maintain systems to measure marketing and promotional activities and projects
- Strong understanding of social media metrics and best practices
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
- Satisfactory criminal record check upon hire
- Valid driver’s license

Assets:

- Experience in customer service
- Experience working in a non-profit
- Knowledge of basic graphic design practices and principles

**Responsibilities**:
Communications/Marketing (50%):

- Coordinate, draft, and manage a monthly operations digital newsletter to shop managers
- Communicating with Thrift shops for operational tasks, activities, projects or initiatives
- In collaboration with CDR, assist shops with social media best practices and ongoing support
- Liaison to MCC Manitoba Thrift shops
- Schedule regional and yearly meetings
- In collaboration with CDR, coordinate communication with local printers for any Thrift printing needs
- Compile and collect data as planned with the Thrift Coordinator and SE Director
- Logistics
- Promotional and marketing needs
- In collaboration with the Thrift Coordinator, assist in building and implementing marketing strategies for Thrift
- Assist in building marketing support to improve customer engagement and other operational priorities as needed.
- Build and maintain strong and healthy relationships with managers, board members and volunteers

Administration (30%):

- Updating Thrift contact information, including adding and removing new management and board members from the shareable MS Office Platforms
- Manage and organize relationships with printers/print companies
- Manage mailing systems, shipping/receiving, and courier, including postage
- Support the Thrift Coordinator in on-site and virtual meeting planning for Thrift shops and other events as required.
- Update the Thrift Resource website, and landing page with hours, and shop information as needed
- Maintain records, archives, Teams folders and shareable file
- Manage, research, and order Thrift marketing merchandise and supplies
