**Position Summary**:
Develops lithium-ion cathode processing technologies, characterizing materials and testing battery cells as part of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technologists. The scientist will also be developing and characterizing high capacity, high voltage cathode materials and is expected to work and solve multi-variable problems in synthesis, structural and electrochemical characterization. The scientist will assist in the development and implementation, and scale-up of the calcination process as it applies to lithium-ion battery cathode materials to scaled-up production for commercial purposes. The scientist will join the commercialization effort to control and reliably tune the nanostructure and interfacial chemistries of cathode materials for optimal electrochemical performance and scaled-up production.

**Responsibilities**:

- Support the management responsibilities of projects by planning and executing experiments in a self-directed manner.
- Coordinate their activities under limited supervision and work autonomously.
- Work in laboratory and pilot plant settings to develop and simulate process operations.
- Synthesis of cathode materials, including but not limited to NMC.
- Battery test cell assembly and electrochemical characterization testing.
- Working with engineers, technicians, and company leaders to scale and commercialize Nano One technology.
- Provide support for the thermal processing team by developing improvements to the current process.
- Interpret, report and present results from various analytical techniques.
- Follow and respect laboratory and pilot plant safety procedures and regulations.
- Looking for ways to create IP in collaboration with others.
- Drafting proposals, writing technical reports and presenting progress on milestones.

**Qualifications**:

- 2+ years of related experience with a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials engineering, and related field, with a strong understanding of electrochemistry fundamentals and material characterization methods
- Industry or equivalent hands-on experience with Li-ion energy storage technologies
- Strong critical thinking skills, which aid the ability to communicate project needs, challenges, decisions, and proposed solutions.
- Hands-on experience with tools, laboratory apparatus and analytical equipment.
- Experience with scaling R&D projects for commercial production.
- Experience with electrochemistry and analytical tools/instruments (i.e., XRD, TGA/DSC, SEM, PSA, EDX, FTIR, CV, ICP-OES, CHN analyzers)
- Pilot plant working experience would be an asset.
- Good technical writing and verbal communication skills with high standards for quality in English. Knowledge of French would be an asset.
