Junior CFD Scientist

The key responsibilities will include:

- Application of CFD models to analyze industrial systems
- Selection of suitable mathematical models and computational approaches and their implementation within a commercial software environment to simulate complex flows
- Supplement commercial code with custom sub-routines if required features are not available
- Development of computational grids for complex 3D geometries
- Post-processing and analysis of simulation results to address research objectives
- Assessment of quality and accuracy of the numerical solution and taking steps to improve them
- Report preparation and presentations to clients and internal stakeholders
- Proposal development and project planning
- Building and management of client relationships

Required skills and experience:

- Very strong fundamental knowledge and understanding of fluid mechanics, the principles of heat and mass transport, thermodynamics, process simulation, and numerical methods
- Extensive experience in developing CFD models for complex fluid dynamics problems
- Deep understanding and practical experience with various approaches to simulate multi-phase flow
- Familiarity with CFD software packages (ANSYS Fluent preferred) and mesh generation software (GAMBIT, ANSYS SpaceClaim, ANSYS ICEM)
- Ability to work to deadlines, in a fast-paced and resource-constrained environment
- Comfortable with both working independently and as part of a team
- Preparation of reports and proposals
- Presentation of results to industry experts, clients and internal stakeholders
- Excellent written and oral communication and critical thinking skills
- Ability to stay current with the latest developments in the field
- Impressive academic record supported by peer-reviewed publications

Areas of desired skills and experience:

- CFD code development
- Experimental fluid dynamics
- Management of research projects
- Mathematical statistics and data analysis
- Operation and administration of high-performance Linux clusters

Qualification requirements:

- PhD in Engineering or related discipline with a focus on Fluid Mechanics (MSc with a strong record and post-graduate experience will be considered)
- Eligibility to work in Canada
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in BC (or ability to obtain it) is an asset
